Lately I've been using real Lumberg mini DC jacks in my pedals
There are a couple different companies that make slightly different knock offs. Some of the threading is better than others. One time I didn't have the right backing nut so I used a regular M8 nut from the hardware store that was bigger than the jack itself. It worked, and was probably more robust than what came with the jack.
If it's something I know is for a customer I'll also hot glue it in place. Soldering really isn't a big deal once you develop the patience for it
