This is yet another obscure circuit that didn't get as much love as it should have.
@szukalski is naming all his overdrives based on the year it was released. So this one came out in 1987.
The original had a couple of extra IC's. One was for Yamaha's switching schema, which has been dropped for True Bypass.
The other is a dual Op Amp but in SIP8 form. So that was converted to DIP8.
I didn't spend too much time trying to find a DIP8 version of the SIP8 TA75559S. I just threw a JRC4558 in it and it sounds great.
Here's an interesting thread on FSB about this circuit.
This is SUCH a cool overdrive. There's a lo-fi quality to the sound and it can be an awesome low to medium gain drive.
As you turn up the gain past noon it starts to get a "fuzzy" quality to it. The EQ of the pedal is pretty flat. No mid-hump. And it's pretty cool driving an amp as well.
Lots of great sounds in this overdrive. Just kills with single coils. It sounds so good with my Strat.
But P90's and HB's sound good too! I just spent some time jamming with my PRS 594 Thinline. (I call it my PRSG
)
I do have some extra PCB's for this. Just DM me.
I used the Lime Green Sand enclosure from Tayda. It's a pretty cool color.
There's not a whole lot going on with this circuit. It's an easy build.
