Just finished my Sola Sound Yellow Hybrid Tonebeder clone, built from the Dirtbox Layouts layout!
For transistors I used a BC107, BC109, and an ASY75 for the germanium purchased from Small Bear.
To get the proper bias of around 2.6V on the Q3 collector I had to swap the R11 value from 220k to 470k
I also swapped the C9 value from 100nF to 47nF as I found it had a more balanced tone when I tested it on breadboard.
When I built it on stripboard I overlooked that the 33nF C10 capacitor is smaller than the others on the layout and so the tone control was not working correctly.
@z2amiller pointed this out, so I took out the cap and bent the legs to make it fit
This is a really nice sounding fuzz! It's got some of the Tonebender "buzzsaw" quality, ample midrange, lots of harmonic content, and it cleans up really well with the guitar's volume knob. I'd consider it "medium gain" as far a fuzz pedals go, but the lower gain tones are really nice as well. Also humbucker-friendly. Highly recommended build!
