NGD!!!

That’s the Mustang bridge. My JM had the same thing. The Mustang bridge was the best of the off-set Fenders. Mastery bridge is an improvement over the original (though that is debatable), but I would think that the only thing it has on the Mustang bridge is that it costs more. The most important thing for a Fender off-set is the neck angle. There almost always needs to be a shim in the neck pocket…

Interesting, this is my first experience with an offset. In fact this is my first tremolo equipped instrument. Thanks for the guidance. I'm glad it comes with the mustang bridge these days. Good on squire for working that out. They're making this budget instrument hard to upgrade, lol. Nut next then, I guess.

It came EADGBe and I kept playing regular guitar stuff which can sound pretty bad. Misty sounds more like... Muddy. "Walk my waaaay and a thousand fucking tubas start to plaaaaaay."

Blackbird also bad.

I always wondered if it was designed to be played like a bass or a guitar. Maybe there’s a reason the VI didn’t catch on at first…

I'm trying to embrace it as it's own thing. To me, it excels at sounding like neither. I even find I'm using a modified right hand technique. Somewhere between my bass fingerstyle, and Andy Martin's pickless picking.

In days of yore, the original Fender bass VI was used to double electric bass parts an octave higher, I seem to recall from some obscure book on Jazz Arranging that I read. Jack Bruce also reputedly played one before he adopted the Gibson EB series. Of course, this was all a very long time ago and my memory isn’t what it was, so I can’t substantiate either claim with hard evidence.

Looks in any case like a lot of fun. Trust you’re enjoying your encounter and have crossed the fun barrier more than once of late.

That's all correct including use in spaghetti western soundtracks. It is also fairly popular with the studio dudes these days. I like Jack Bruce but I'm not trying to get them "early cream toanz."

As far as the amount of fun, it is copious.

I was looking for famous examples of the bass vi users. This one wasn't exactly what I expected to find. I thought this was a Meters song.

TLDR - new strings new nut fuck yeah.

Arrrrright. Bone nut installed, labella flats swapped in. Only had to do a little work on the ebay precut (axemasters) nut and now it plays beautifully. No more thoughts of neck shims or trem disabling. So really next thing would be upgrading pickups/pots/wiring but that will be 100% due to boredom and not need. Maybe put some lollars up in there and really get a nostril full of my own flatulence.

What little buzz I was getting is now gone and tonally it's a huge improvement. Still isn't going to replace my pbass for live or studio use but hey it might make it all the way through some rehearsals and jams. I was rolling the tone back a lot with the roundwounds but i now enjoy the sweep all the way through to wide open. I can also now dig in nearly as hard as I can on my p. For those considering a bass vi, this 60 buck upgrade only took 30 minutes including intonating the bridge.

nice bass!

Some time ago i bought a squier bass the affinity precision PJ model, i didn't want to spend thousands of euros for a fender precision, but i wanted a similar sound and playability. At the end of the day i spend 215 euros for the bass and 250 euros for modifications, seymour duncan quarter pund PJ pickups, all electronics redone and an original fender bridge. I compared my bass with a friend's American fender and I can confirm that the difference, especially in recording, is imperceptible.

to mindlessly tweak with my pinky so I threw these oddities on there. Gotta mod it somehow, right?

Best. Knobs. Ever. 😻

Of course that’s highly subjective, but they are my favourite.

Garnet amps used this style; I’ve seen some old studio rack gear with them, too.

I found some in a little shop in HK and bought every last one including the larger one in the display case. I tried to order more, but the shop owner couldn’t or wouldn’t get them anymore.

Recently I’ve seen them in cream colour, too, just online though. Wish I could find a supplier, I’m meting them out only in special builds and loathe the coming day when I run out of my stash.
