Help I’ve got Gas…

Ok dudes. Major GAS attack. Been YouTube rabbit hole’ing 335’s. Ever since seeing Omer Fedi shred a vintage Gibson 335 at Norms shop I have been obsessed with them. The Epiphones are dirt cheap too and getting very good reviews. Who’s got one. What’s the good and bad. Also like the Ibanez version. I wish I had the extra to grab a Gibson American made but at 5x the cost these Epi’s are looking mighty tasty. Should I just get over it and keep enjoying my Jazzmaster or should I succumb to GAS attack.
I would honestly just try guitars out. Don't worry to much about specs. I researched electric guitars for months and looked at specs and everything and my mind was dead set on a epi les paul. Walked into a music store and looked at a Gretsch Dual Jet of all guitars. Gretsch guitars are already niche but this is next level. I thought, oh it's a gretsch, it's for country players. Well, I tried it. I fell in love instantly, and then bought it.

Man I love that guitar. It just plays so great.
So I wouldn't pay that much attention to reviews or research it to death. Just go and try some out. Remember, you can always change how a guitar sounds, but you can't change the neck size, fret size, nut width, or fingerboard radius. Feel is so important. Specs won't tell you how the guitar is gonna mesh with your body type, hand size, playing style etc.

Sorry for my long lecture lol.

You speak the truth. I agree. Time for some guitar shop visits.

Some of the Ibanez semis I see in shops look excellent. But I am spoilt - I have a Gibson CS '59 335 from 2018 and it's the best I've played. I'm glad I bought it (used) a couple of years ago because the prices at the moment are ridiculous. The first 335 I ever had was about 35 years ago - it was a '65 in cherry red. It sounded amazing but had the skinny neck which my big hands couldn't cope with.

A friend has a Collings I35 and while it's good I actually prefer my Gibson. My Gibson plays better and has a smokier, bluesier sound. I've had quite a few Gibsons and obviously some are better than others. This is the third CS '59 I've had and it's the best by far. The pickups are perfect. Clear, bright, full but detailed, all that good stuff. Not murky or dark until you want them to be.

Thing is some of the cheaper guitars sound just as good, just different. Some of the Chinese guitars are let down by their pickups and electronics. So if you can find one which plays well, sounds ok but maybe a little dull, it may be a great guitar which just needs some better electronics.

I'm just realizing that since you're into the Jazzmaster shape, which is another really big guitar to my standards, maybe the 335 won't be too big for you like it is for many. (I'm 5'11" and skinny like I spend my food budget on gear)
Brillant, I need to drop a few pounds, can't wait to tell my better half we're going on the gear diet!

You echo my sentiments exactly. Big and dark. Feedback at real volume. And 339s won't give you a 335 sound if that's what you want. I had this talk with @Harry Klippton before that I think most Gibson's look like boomer guitars that old dentists play. The SG is the only one that has sex appeal to me, and doesn't sound like dark mudd.
You almost have to be a Dentist to afford the insanity that is Gibson 335 pricing.

It's hard to except anything less than excellence especially when Will's ideal guitar is perfection.

I love my Tele's. In so many ways they are the PERFECT guitar. So simple yet you can get so many sounds out of it. Fits me like a glove.

Having said that, variety, as they say is the spice of life. If I were a polygamist I'd have 7 wives......

I think most of these guitars have made an appearance in my "Shut up and play yer guitar" demo series.

On the bottom right is my fly tying table....yet another passion (read black hole) I fall into from time to time.....

That's "Bonnie" my 10 month old Westie. She's the love of my life (after #1 wife of course....) She often decides to hang out with "Daddy" in my office. She also makes an appearance in my avatar although that was the day we got her and she was only a 4 lb runt.
