Feeling Kind of Bummed Out...Until Now!

Going back to my OP, I was merely sitting on the pity pot saying "woe is me". It was the end of the day, I was stressed out and felt "trapped" for lack of a better term. I think everyone goes through this at some point in their lives, albeit at different rates or amounts of time. That being said, I picked myself up and got back on the horse and decided to post a new breadboard tutorial. Adjustment periods suck, but they're only for a short amount of time before we adapt to the new norm.

TL;DR: The only way to make a lot of money with my skillsets is to work longer hours. No thanks, I'll just scrape by and have a ton of free time. That's priceless.

I used to be a graphic designer and illustrator. I never made the big bucks because I realized that with hard skills it's all about putting in more and more hours and I wasn't interested in that.

After 20 years I quit the field because spending all day and night alone in a room in front of Photoshop and Illustrator wasn't healthy. My days were all messed up because I had clients in Europe, the US, Australia, Israel etc.

Luckily I knew a couple of languages so I became an English teacher. I have the morning to futz around and go to the gym. I spend my afternoons and evenings among people, talking and having fun. No screens in sight and no sitting down.
I also moonlight as a translator, which does require sitting in front of a screen but I take on little work so it's manageable.

I only work Monday to Thursday.
Friday is for music, going away for the weekend or running errands, shopping, doctor's appointments and going to hardware stores and try to explain to clueless Polish guys what needle nose pliers are and why I need them and what a guitar effect is.

I only make enough to support myself and my music hobbies. If I ever need more money I can always take on more hours and jobs and start working Fridays. I have no family so this is an easy choice for me. I understand most people at 46 have many more responsibilities than me.

My wife was brought up to believe that you must have as much money in the bank as possible! Understandable as she was the product of Croatian immigrants who had a very tough life back in Europe. So I have had to gently persuade her over the years - there is more to life than money. So while my business was strong I was delighted to support her as she realised a dream to write. And that's a hard way to make money. But it was a particularly happy time for all of us because she loved being a writer, albeit not very successful. Not her fault - she can write, but publishing has been going through a tumultuous time as publishers try to work out their role as record companies have grappled with too.

So while we're not as wealthy as we might have been I think we're happier than if we had both been working normal jobs all this time. You only get one go.

Again, we are very lucky. I feel for the OP.

Damn. I was on the pity pot real early in my job.

Anyways, I've got good news! Buddy's going to be coming back here more often and not just troll on other people's posts! I just got offered another job this morning and am waiting to hear back from another company. tbh i've never had 2 job offers at the same time, but one can dream. Anyways, either company has much more wfh and work/life balance and am super excited to leave (not here obviously, lol). On top of that, it's my birthday this weekend!! Good things come to those who wait.

Oh, and I've also got a new bass amp sitting at my front door waiting to be unboxed when my wife gets home!

Fantastic news dude. Life can change for the better in ways you weren't expecting. Fingers crossed it works out for you and you can get back to making some pedals and making some noise.

What flavor amp? And congrats!

I'm a beginner on the bass, so I've got a Fender Rumble 40W staring at me waiting to unbox. From what i've read it's probably the best beginner amp out there in this price point.
That should be a great starting point for you. I seriously considered getting that or the 100 for my semi acoustic Friday night jam thing, but a friend ended up giving me a killer DIY 110 cab with an airhead space above that fits a variety of little modern Class D heads.
