Seeing your work on the big stage (proud dad moment)

Pretty much all my creations never leave my house except for some rare garage band sessions. I built a giant multi pedal and pedalboard for my friend a couple years ago and he finally got to use it last night opening for Culture Club.

The band looked and sounded excellent and most importantly I guess the sound guy loved how easy the bass was to set up since he just ran everything through the cab sim and DI (the board can run to an amp or be ampless).

Anyways this is an unabashed bragging because I was honestly scared something would go wrong or it wouldn’t survive the dreaded T.S.A. (iykyk)

Wicked Good!

Was nice to revisit the build report and the build thread, too.

Does your friend actually leave the board on top of the roadcase like that?

Would be good for me as I've got poor-eyes and long legs.

Thank you! Apparently he does leave it like that. To me it seems possible you could knock it over but the switches are all soft switch so maybe he’s just got a light touch!

To buck the trend, I did play a venue of this size a couple of times in a previous life. It's all been downhill since, to the point where I once played a gig where our main audience was the opening act and vice versa. It was at that moment I decided to quit the band...

Sweet! A few years ago I went to see a band at NAMM that are endorsers for one of my luthier buddies. They were on the big Yamaha Main Stage outdoors, and when I got there I saw that the bass player was using a booth bass with one of my experimental onboard preamps in it. I was pretty nervous, but it worked out fine.

There are also some old YouTube vids floating around of a fairly well known fusion jazz player using a custom rack tube preamp I built for him, in one case it ended up on a whole live album. But he was an endorser for someone else and I wasn't able to leverage it in any way, beyond enjoying going and seeing him play in Portland or out here a few times. The big company didn't care what he did on dive bar gigs, essentially, but when he went out on tour with name performers he definitely couldn't have used my appliance.

Funny enough I built this as a home setup more than anything but we decided to make it pretty tough with the road case and all that since he knew he might play 1 or 2 shows bu since this one now it’s like requested are flying in. Might have to revisit some aspects of the build to beef it up!

In an ideal world I would design some pcbs to make the inside less of a rats nest and not require so many separate boards. Especially with regards to power distribution and relay switching
