Goofy homemade parts for a fancy studio compressor

I was going to post this in What’s on your workbench, but then I took a bunch of pictures, so here we are.

I’ve had this fancy compressor sitting on my bench for a while waiting to be tested so it can be put up for sale. It belonged to my uncle who passed last year, and I’ve been helping sort through his gear.



The hold up has been this messed up terminal on the back. The screw was snapped off in the hole, and the tab was broken and gone. This pic was after I got the screw out.


Here’s the tabs from the back side where they’re soldered to the circuit leads.



I don’t know what those tabs are called or where you would get one, so I got out my little files and made one out of brass.

Here it is on my small part clamping jig for drilling.







Bent and notched.



Soldered in.



Some new crimp terminals and all connected up.



And it works!

When I was 11 I asked my dad why he was saving a screwdriver with the tip snapped off. "I might need it to fabricate something someday; IT'S GOOD METAL"

When I was 55 the axle/shaft in the gas pump in my 1967 Jeep Gladiator military converted to ambulance M725 snapped in half. I thought about the screwdriver, retrieved it from the same drawer in the same tool chest my dad had it in and it was exactly the same diameter.

Half an hour later I had it cut to the right size and drilled with a cotterpin hole. Still works, I'm 68.....

Dad was Master Sargent of the Motor pool under Gen. Patton in No. Africa in WWII. He had to fabricate a bunch of stuff and taught me the ropes.....

edited: all other military jeeps were made specifically for the armed services and many were converted to civilian after wars. The Jeep Gladiator is the ONLY Jeep that was made for civilian use, and converted to military
