What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

I’d like to get a Motu. A lot of their ad/da interfaces have DC-coupled outputs, and at a decent price compared to other options. Then I can automate CV signals and send them directly to my modular synth.

Annd that’s why I don’t have one yet. My 2010 mac mini and 2008 Apogee Duet just won’t kick the bucket!

I say that, but also “please continue working for the duration of this album project.” :D
That CV output capability might just come in handy for some of the stuff I’m trying with the Cabintech digital BBD appliance…hmmm. :devilish:

Not that it would be any better live but does touchscreen work? May be a little less painless for quick adjustments.
There is no touchscreen on mine, but it can be networked to a free iPad control app if it's plugged into another computer. Kinda goofy, it would be nicer if there were a simple way to do it via MIDI. But as a practical matter, I could leave the menu in the mute screen for the master and just hit that if things go south. I was a little worried about feedback issues with my SM87 mic, but I can get much louder at home than I need to be without any problem and running vocals through my DIY 8/horn cab that I made mainly for acoustic guitar sounds excellent. I have an AudioKinesis bass cab the works pretty well for full range applications too, so I could even do a quick and dirty main/monitor rig in a pinch, or a stereo one.

If the motu native mixer has midi capabilities, there are older 8 channel midi fader packs that can be had cheap.
Pretty sure it needs a software host in the computer to get there, but I could probably kludge something together using my Pad and mobile interface, I reckon. But at that point I wouldn't really need the MOTU. ;)

Restomodding a Kay Swingmaster. I got the body and neck for cheap. I refretted the neck and fabricated pickup rings to accept traditional humbuckers. I did not want to spend $200 a piece on the original Kleenex Pickups.

Finally there was the issue of the truss rod acorn nut which was completely stripped. It was a 5/16" Nut. I tried to hammer on a 7mm socket to see if it would grip enough to twist it off, no dice. I was able to get it to break loose by hammering at it with a chisel.

The 828x design is a decade old and it definitely took some determined tweaking to get it working right on my new Win11 PC, but as I said I'm OK with that and it does sound really great. I'll probably pick up one of the M series units for my iPad sooner than later too, which was my plan for the PC before this rack mount one fell into my lap. Way more features than I actually need, but WTH.
I love my M4...I'd like more inputs but it isn't holding me back and can be used with my ipad in the field. I'm running it on Win10 for the studio work.

I've always adored the Kays and always loved Danelectro lipstick pickups — for as long as I can remember I wanted to jam two of them together and make a "Humpucker" — of course when I found you can now just buy the lipstick-humbuckers, I had to have one for my Tele build.

Your Swingmaster ... that... that...

Mostly finished the component side of a Klein bottle, ran out of 1/8w 1k resistors and don't want to cram in 1/4w since I'm waiting on the enclosure from tayda anyway. I really hope it works, my only other vfe attempt is still on the shelf of shame.
check that CP soon as you can, it takes a little more heat to get that back ground pad to bond than the legs so it’s really easy to think it’s good but all the solder might not be melted. The phase switch’s are a little tricky as well

Thanks, I assume CP is the 9mm pot? I should have the remaining resistors and my new testing rig by the end of the week, I'll add the pots then and start testing.
