Other options than mercury magnetics for rewinding OT

Buddy of my has a marshall studio 15 (4001), it has a bad OT. Only replacement I could find was MM, so ordered one a few weeks ago. Pretty terrible overall experience in the whole process. Today get an email saying they don’t have and cant find a part needed for the transformer. Which seemed odd to me, arent all transformers kind of the same idea? Anyways they offered to rewind the original for 300$ or do a refund. Doing a refund as the whole interaction with them as be very spotty and fairly negative.

Is there another vendor anyone would recommend reachinf out to? Hammond doesnt make a replacement, and i havent found a heyboer one.

Thx.

let me check my closet. I had a lead 12 project at one time but been through some personal stuff since then so I'd need to verify. if it is there I will remove the transformer and send it gratis.

does it need to be an exact replacement, or does a similar one suffice? (for example, I know a lot of people put beefier transformers in their amps). I would suspect something Hammand carries would fit the bill here.

Was hoping to keep the unbalanced direct out as an option which the MM one had.

if this were tube, yeah np ... but because it isn't that answer is a little harder for me to come by. also it looks like I purged that project, so I'm sorry I don't have the part to send you

Did some sniffing and yeah, due to the weird windings was tough to find anything. Plus most searches don't seem to care about output/power so I chased down a few rabbit holes.

MM should be able to craft stuff out of thin air given their rep and prices. Had good luck to date but this sounds weird.
Was really weird they werent really responding when asked what was going on with the order etc. he sent them a whats going on, and voiced being unhappy with lack of response not rudely but did say the experience was bad so far and the response was we cant build it, we can refund or your money or if you have the original we can repair that for double the cost.

I thought the double the cost seemed weird wording rather than just saying what the repair cost is. I think they are near where the fires were maybe thats got something to do with it.

I think MM have been having trouble replacing the guy who answered emails. I've had not terrible but slow responses from them recently. The woman who does respond eventually is very apologetic - she told me that Dave (the email responder) retired late last year and they can't find anyone to replace him. It would be a difficult role as learning all that very idiosyncratic inventory would be quite a challenge.

Still, it is frustrating trying to get info from them.

It took a week for them to issue the refund, and i havent seen it yet. Getting near the point of just doing a dispute.

Might make the best transformers, but their service is awful. Was thinking of getting one of theirs for doing the ot upgrade for my 69 bandmaster reverb. Thinking ill look elsewhere now.

Yeah, that sounds pretty lame. FWIW I don't use them because I think they make the best transformers - although they do sound great usually - but for their options that nobody else seems to offer. Heyboer can make some great transformers, as long as whoever specced them did it right. GDS, Marstran and Metroamp have supplied some excellent transformers built by Heyboer. A lot of Mojo and Victoria transformers are made by Heyboer but seemingly to a more cost effective spec? I can't say exactly but IME they don't sound as good as MM.
