Worst Cover Songs Of All Time

Roger Waters did his own solo/vanity version of Us and Them, and it's a got-down-sat-on-a-bench musical abomination. I don't even have the heart to link it. Go Google it if you're into s&m or whatever, you sick ducks…

Wait a minute… he decided to do that… in 2023?? I thought for sure you were referencing some awful 90’s dalliance or something. Just gave it a listen. I instantly hunched over and shook my head like a disappointed little league coach.

Well. The whole band was kind of a joke. But I either never heard that cover or I self lobotomized it out of my memory
Either way, I just hate that song, and the B52s in general.

Also, with very few exceptions, Beatles covers. I think actually the majority are just *meh* with nothing exceptional or abhorrent. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I freakin looooooaaathe Aerosmith's cover of Come Together. It kinda made me dislike all covers on principle.

Most almost all of the I Am Sam sountrack is just *skip track* *let Ben Folds pound out Golden Slumbers for a few bars* *skip the rest of the album*

Okay, I'm biased.

I just think they're so iconic, it's a tall order. It's so odd that cover performance was just a thing in the industry for decades, the Fab Four doing it several times in the early days.

Anyway, on topic, yeah, I'm chalking up Aerosmith's cover as one of the worst.

I happened to hear Lenny Kravitz's cover of American Woman for the first time in ages recently, and was honestly kinda stupefied. He essentially took everything that was good about the song and hit Delete.

That got me thinking about some other ones that might have fallen through the cracks. Here's... this, and I'm so, so sorry you are now aware of it: Everclear's cover of The Joker by The Steve Miller Band. The heady mixture of ill-fitting vocoder and Art Alexakis's own brand of off-the-cuff banter make this one for the ages.

What are some others? I'm a glutton for punishment.

Man ive met art alexakis a few times. He used to frequent an electronics store i worked at. Really nice guy. That is super bad lol

A) Outside of mayyyybe the first album, Aerosmith can seriously eff off forever. Good lord, if I hear that “BA-HAH! BA-HAH!” intro to Dude Looks Like A Lady one more time in my life, I think that’s about it for me.

B) Also in agreement on the Beatles covers, but there are exceptions. Vince Guaraldi does a really nice instrumental version of I’m A Loser that’s almost hard to recognize. Speaking of which, here’s Randy California’s demented take on Rain, complete with totally unrelated “twang” intro. Not for everyone, but I think it’s weird and wonderful.

any classic song that has been redone to be devoid of any feeling, complete with lifeless instrumentation and dumb breathy/whisper vocals with no dynamics...commonly found in advertisements. Those are the worst of the worst...maybe not as bad as Bono but pretty close.

@Ginsly that's why that cover is good, because it brought character to the song regardless of the source material, that's when covers hit properly

also agreed on Aerosmith, blech
