NPD - Chase Bliss Clean

My buddy did the $300 mystery box thing and wasn't happy with his pull. He got a Clean, and a rolly expression pedal.

I thought the Clean looked pretty cool from the demos, so I just traded him $300 worth of "Store credit" for some of my built stuff - He grabbed my Sushibox Lab Rat and a GCI HM1, and he's got some credit left over to use later. I'm gonna miss the Lab Rat, but I'll just build another one, and it's a good excuse to shop some of the other projects over there.

Anybody using a Clean? Got any hot tips on where I should start with this thing??

Oh heck yeah. I’ve been really curious about that pedal since it came out. I watched a ton of demos and it looks and sounds quite unique from what I’ve seen. I haven’t actually played one but I’m definitely interested in hearing your experience with it once you’ve had time to dig in and figure it out!

Also, I love the exp expression pedals for playing at home. I’ve got two of them. Super pedalboard friendly and I find I can be a little more precise with them due to the visible numbers on the top side.

I got a clean in my mystery box and I'm trying not to be disappointed, lol. I've found that the most practical use for my situation is putting it right before my cheap audio interface when I'm tracking guitars. Basically using it like a fancy studio compressor. In conjunction with a preamp (my own creation) and a cab simulator (OmniCabSim) I'm getting some of the best guitar tones I've ever recorded. I'm doing basically zero post-processing in the DAW except for some room reverb and mastering EQ and compression.

Apologies for the Instagram video, but here's a recording using that setup to show off a new fuzz design I did recently:

That sounds great!! Setting it up as a stereo outboard compressor is definitely one of the things I'd like to mess around with.

What do you like running on your expression pedals? I've got basically no experience with em.

I have a Strymon big sky for reverb and a Keeley Halo for Delay at the end of my chain. I have an expression pedal for each that allows me to dial up or down the mix. I then just leave both those pedals always on and can dial delay and reverb to taste, everywhere from fully wet to fully dry.

I like that setup because some songs call for the mix to be high on time-based effects, others none at all. Or sometimes I want just a little more delay and I can dial all that in with my feet on the fly.

I've been temped by one of these too. Got my first Chase Bliss pedal in their Mystery Box a few months ago (Onward) and have been enjoying it a lot. The Clean seems more stereotypically useful, but knowing them it also has some zaniness too.

Man the Onward is so good. I have a fair amount of their pedals and I think it might be a top 3 of theirs for me. So many cool ways to use it, and so many weird noises it can make.

For sure! So far I've mostly used it for recording weird vocal backing tracks or adding glitch layers to an acoustic guitar. Ha. I lives in the aux send of my mixer

I'm a big fan of the FMR Really Nice Compressor.

Got me one of those. Haven't used it in ages. Should start again.
That one’s definitely on my radar. I’ve got a serviceable but unexciting 2 channel DBX unit, and an LA3A clone to play with, and now this clean thing, so I definitely don’t need an FMR, but if I found the right deal on a used one I might grab it. Albini said it was good in some video I watched, and that’s good enough for me.
