since this has had some serious hype, i was thoroughly compelled to build and hear this delay.
my last analog delay was the Lectric FX DC ECHO, and while that thing is heckin marvelous and fun to play, it's a friggin huge 1590XX and has a lot of knobs, so there's a lot of appeal with this 125B package and only 3 controls.
the standard triangular 3-knob layout isn't really my favourite, so i made an attempt relocate/offboard the mix control to achieve a diagonal layout.
for some large value caps there are some pretty small footprints on this PCB set, so i attempted to see if the 50V 1uF WIMA film caps would fit, and they do, but barely. also calls for 1/8W resistors, which would be tidier, but it looks like the 1/4W ones aren't doing too badly..
i can see why it's revered - i haven't used an analog or PT2399 delay that works this well in front of an overdrive channel while remaining relatively minimally filtered, as this DM-3 thing does.
but i will admit, with my build there is a nagging, very subtle, but odd buzzy-like noise/decay that occurs in the wet signal if the delay time is set very high/long. (from about 3'o clock onwards)
i've built and dialled in an analog delay before (DC ECHO) and had no problems at all with that, so i promise i'm not totally brain damaged.. maybe.
i followed the introductions and spent forever and ever dialling in the bias/gain trimmers and other than that very minor issue, it sounds really really good.
despite that i haven't been able to resolve that, so far i've been doing really well at not letting it bother me and just getting on with life and enjoying how good it sounds regardless.
here's the demo.
