XC Phase

This one was mostly finished for a while. All the recent Phase 90/45 build reports inspired me to wrap this one up.

I’m not normally a black & gold person, but every once in a while it just feels right for a build.

I picked up a matched set of transistors from AionFX long before I had a board for this. I have 4 film caps mounted on the other side of the board, in case you were wondering where they were.

I did one mod. I saw that the circuit only uses a single throw on the block / script switch. So I connected a 15k resistor on the other side of a on/off/on. It is more extreme than the block mode- it sweeps wider, and introduces a bit of distortion that I think sounds cool. If I were to mod this later I might try 16k or 18k there.

This is my next build. I purchased a matched quad of through-hole 2n5952's that hurt my pocket a bit! So I'm curious as I've never used one of those SMD adaptor boards. Do you just solder the JFET to the board and then attach the board to the main PCB which some component lead cutoffs? and next question... Why, since the XC PCB is set up for either through-hole or SMDs.? Nice looking build though.

Basically. But instead of component leads, I use header pins.

The reason I built it this way is because my matched set came pre-soldered onto the adapter boards.

Nice! The XC Phase is one of my favorite pedals I’ve built from PPCB. Does anyone make an MXR phaser with the 45/90 and script/block switches? It’s a great idea.
