This is a report on my build of Dylan159's Pelota2, using a board from @szukalski. You can find Szukalski's gerber here. I made this pedal about a year ago and thought I'd already posted a build report, then realized it was missing. Here you go!
Inspiration
With a delay pedal, I wanted to have a design featuring birds that lined up. I figured that birds on a power line would be a good fit. There's a few of those kinds of birds that stand out to me, but I was reserving the crow for a top-tier pedal and I had already done a starling pedal. I figured pigeons could be good but I'd prefer to use that with a more distinctive design. Then it hit me - the grackle. My gf grew up in Texas and when visiting the grackle has stood out to me. Funny thing is that although she's the birder, as a kid she hated these birds - it was before she got into birding. I think they're pretty cool, sorta a hybrid between a crow and a magpie. The grackle also fits with the Spanish name that Dylan159 gave to the pedal.
So grackle it was. With a vertical layout like this it was tough to fit as many birds as I wanted in a row that would emphasize the 'repeating' nature of the design, but I think it turned out well. I made this pedal about a year ago IIRC, and it turned out among the best of my 'full-bleed' designs where I was trying to have a consistent pattern of horizontal lines for each pedal. I'm pretty happy with the hazy sunset colors, anyway, and it works well with the orange enclosure.
The Build
No problems, this is an easy build, and as with all of the Dylan159 pedals, the parts are all easy enough to find. I believe that I ordered this board among my first set of gerbers through JLC - which I believe were all Sheepylove boards, so this did broaden my horizons substantially. The layout is nice
The Pedal
It's a PT2399 delay. Obviously that has some constraints but I think this is a really good version of such a delay, and this one has modulation. As such, it's much more versatile than the Deep Blue Delay, even if the controls are slightly more complicated. It's a really nice effect that I'd highly recommend. It's in the same realm as the Magnetron Delay/Keeley Magnetic Echo. I think I'd need to do some side-by-side testing to see which I prefer between the two. But if you're looking for a delay, I would recommend it!
