I built this pedal hoping to get some Soundgarden Superunknowm sounds, after fidding with the bias and controls I've found some settings that nail Spoonman and a few other songs.
Someone somewhere suggested 2n5457's, happy I used them. This pedal is a bit bright, esp for singles. While fiddling, I've had it tweaked for gain settings going light to heavy OD and distortion to more distortion so it's a flexible pedal, but again, a bit brighter than my fuzzdog rockbox and aionfx timmy clone.

If I could do it over again, I would use prescion trimpots, and change the 1U on Q1 to something a little higher for more low end.

Tayda Enclosure, no special graphics, build was easy, and I need a new phone.

Nice - IMO, unless it's a low-gain OD to begin with, I go 2N5457 for anything JFET-based.
Did you do 1M for the gain pot? My initial all-J201 build was too much, and I dropped the gain down to a 500K.

Enjoy!

I did use 1M for the gain. Still tweaking the trim pots lowering the gain here and there, I think q1 to 4 are somewhere between 4.7V - 5.2V now. Turning up the gain slightly I get a mild OD below 9oclock, 9 its hard rock, 9 to 12 its getting crunchy, 12 and over distortion with more saturation from there.

Thinking of building the acrylic plexi drive next.
