The is the second of the Animal Pedals "Diamond Peak" that I've built.
The first one was using one of @MattG 's boards. (Build report here). I really should have spent more time in that demo on the Diamond Peak.
It's been my staple goto "fuzzy overdrive" and such a great sounding pedal!
For those not familiar, Animal Pedals has collaborated with Marc Ahlfs (Skreddy Pedals) on a number of his circuits. The Diamond Peak was one that was tweaked by @HamishR and @Chuck D. Bones in this BoneYard Thread.
The main reason for building the Sheepy Love version of this board from @szukalski is form factor.......
.......like 1590b with top jacks yo........hahaha.
This pedal was designed around using low gain NPN transistors (~60-100 hfe). For my previous build I used some NPN's that @Chuck D. Bones so kindly sent me.
For this build I socketed the NPN's and spent quite a bit of time auditioning different Low and medium gain transistors. I discovered that this circuit actually works really well with slightly higher gains ~150 hfe. It sounds a bit different but the one I liked the best was a 2N5551. I played it that way for a few days before going back to a pair of MPS3646 with gains at 80 hfe and 68 hfe. The board has 2N3903 printed on it although I'm not sure if that's what the original circuit uses. But 2N3903's are also within the correct gain range sound great in it!
I decided to go with the exact same color scheme as my first build. Albeit in a 1590b.
The first set of NPN's I tried in it were a pair of metal can 2N2222A's. They were a bit out of range.
Another great Marc Ahlfs circuit! And some very useful mods by CBD!
Thanks @szukalski for the awesome layout!
I do have a few extra PCB's for this board. You know the drill, just DM me.
