A Wawa hoagiefest themed auto-wah.
It's a Philly thing.
It lives in my classroom and the kids love it.

The build was smooth- this was my second poison apple. I used Wima caps on the first and Tayda green ones on this, and can't hear a difference. The bass switch works alright, but it really benefits from a compressor before it to sound good on bass. I love it on guitar, though I find I only use it with the sensitivity high and decay low, mostly while playing in a fairly muted style.

The Poison Apple "can" be somewhat laid back with low input. (E.g., single coils)
But since I run a compressor at the beginning of my chain that's always on, it's less of an issue.
When I used an autowah, I'm generally not going for the Jerry Garcia thing, I like it to be subtle and in the background.
Love the artwork! Clean build!

As soon as I read "Wawa hoagiefest" I knew it had to be a Philly thing. I grew up and lived there for 40 years before moving to New England for work. I always chose Pat's over Geno's. 😋

That's a beautiful looking enclosure. Can you say a little more about how you did it?

Thanks! I took screenshots of the Wawa adds I liked and used the paint bucket tool (Inkscape) to copy the shapes and tweak the colors / combine the images to fit. I printed with a color laser printer on clear sunnyscopa waterslide paper.

I like the look of bare aluminum showing through, so I tried that on my first auto-wah build, but the colors weren't great, so for the second try I sprayed the enclosure white first. For the first one, I tried laying the waterslide in one shot, and that was a pain, so for mk2 I applied the top and bottom separately, which was much easier to align. I like to clear-coat with "satin" finish. The knobs are tayda's Davies clones with colored indicator lines to match the paint.

I almost never take pictures mid-build, but did with this pedal, to show my students the process.

Thanks! I just built a General Tso- I'll have to try them together with guitar.
