Woe!!

There's a pretty decent audio component company in the next town over so I always try to put a couple things from there in the box. You know, hometown pride. Well, last weekend I threw the littler kids in the van for an outing at dad's little hobby shop, as one does, and I'll be tore up into little pieces--the windows were papered over!

"showroom and retail shop closed permanently...including IN PERSON PICKUP''

I had to have that shit shipped!! It's been sad enough to see their selection dwindle over the years but now the convenience factor? What's left? The pride, right? Well not so much. Got the goods the next day and it's worse than I thought: there's not even any brand packaging on the while label stuff they don't actually manufacture. How am I to subtly support the home team for the diy pedal dorks if there's no name/location on half the gear we use? Unsubtly I guess, because I'm starting to worry about them man.

(Parts-express if you're into decent budget hifi and sound reinforcement gear. Killer service too)

Should this be in the 'Headaches' thread? 😂

I've used parts express a ton over the last 2 decades. First stop for connectors because they're always running a deal on them. Hopefully it's a successful pivot.

Guess I'm going to need to check parts-express and see if I need anything before it changes too much.

RIP Talon Electronics website. (unless one of you all have managed to get to their site)

Yeah. They have been down for a few months. I think they closed, per their Google listing.

My people!!

We have certainly outdone ourselves this year, this thing is out of control. It's like mega-PiF. I love it. So much more fun than geeking out at a computer screen shopping parts.

First I was determined to pull out at least 5 lbs of enclosures and this badass little "transistorized" mic splitter. Then I went a different direction from PapaBz and kept a bunch of stuff I'm not used to: never built a muff (don't stone me), never foxed with sub-mini tubes or germanium npn, and as much as I love to build a RAT, I've never seen a Motorola tin can 308. Also grabbed the misc. caps bag, a short deck of pcbs, a handful of knobs, some hardware and assorted accouterments. Then there's the crown jewel: robot circuit project. It's gonna be a cacophonic freak out! Lastly, let me holler @Cybercow's departure from the force. I don't know whether to lament for him or celebrate his recovery to sanity. Surely some of this crap came from his stash, so his cybernetic moo-jo will carry on at the bench.

I'm trying to keep stuff that's obviously part of a project together, but it's hard to tell at this point. I'm gonna look around for a little more batting and have it out the door today.

I'm pretty proud of my contribution to the mega-PiF, but I'm super proud of my daughter's and my Yuletide PiF. I can't say it was 100% inspired by the bean, but his idea definitely helped push us to actually make it happen. The Girl Scout troop she and I started a few years back threw a BYO-new-toy-or-hand-me-down-coat pancake breakfast at the end of the year. It ended up being on the same weekend that the gnarly arctic blast hit the Midwest, so it was pretty hilarious when the church who let us use their kitchen called the night before to reschedule! Bwahahaha!!

Like hell! We had camped out their rec room for the weekend so we weren't going anywhere. We were already there, we'd promoted it all over town, and by god there was gonna be some cold and hungry people at the door in the morning expecting flapjacks and sausage! So despite four degrees and four inches of snow, we fed a couple/few dozen people and scored a bunch of toys for kids who weren't gonna be getting much else. IT WAS AWESOME!
