Had a friend that borrowed my own Cobalt and asked me to build one for him.

For artwork, he wanted a “Gothic / Magician / Tarot Card type vibe.” He is a very good magician so this is right up his alley. I had a lot of fun trying to get this one right. Very happy with how it turned out. The artwork is from Micah Ulrich.

As far as the build goes, this was my first time hand-soldering SMD JFETS to adapter boards, and I’m glad they turned out. I have a hard time keeping my hands steady but I didn’t scorch any J201s so it was a win. Also figured out a way to extend LED legs my crimping 2cm strips of wire to them and soldering them in place.

One thing I still have trouble with is input/output wiring. I can’t get them to look uniform. Any tips there?

What do you think of the circuit?

I’m not the best go-to for circuit analysis, but I love how it sounds. I prefer it on higher gain settings, but it also responds well to rolling off the guitar volume and a dynamic playing style. Can go from clean to huge in an instant.

Me too! Of all the ODs that I have built this circuit pleased me the most. My friend is a Nashville producer and he told me the EXACT thing you said! He showed me how the circuit responded to his attack. I agree!
