I was only going to grab one if it had a new MCU. But still a nice little upgrade for new people that should be compatible with existing projects!

The email I got for this just now says this, so hopefully they fixed the noise. I don't see the verbage about the noise floor on the website.

"The Seed3 sports a new audio codec with crystal clear audio. Up to 32-bit, 192kHz processing and an unbelievably low noise floor (-120 db)."

I ordered mine yesterday! I don't expect any major difference, although I have way more USB C cables lying around nowadays so that's helpful. I also want to plug the Seed 3 into my daisy pedals (bksheperd, funbox, terrarium) and make sure there's not any unusual behavior with the op amp buffers. As far as I can see on the Electrosmith website, they are no longer selling the previous Daisy Seed version, so that would be something to let users know on the open source projects. Fingers crossed everything works great with less noise, but the noise issues weren't caused by the noise floor of the codec, so I am being cautious in my expectations.

Looking through the Seed3 datasheet, they have updated documentation on circuitry surrounding the Daisy, including instrument level (guitar) input/outputs (page 19). It's great how much info they added in the datasheet, but it is significantly different from what I've used in my pedal designs for op amp buffers, and different from the Terrarium, so hopefully everything still plays nicely. There are some references to a "Pedal Dev Kit", and someone asked about that in the Daisy discord, they said more info on that is coming soon.

I was also curious about a new MCU, but honestly the H750 is probably still the best choice for them. There are some 600Mhz H7's but the onboard RAM is much less, and I like to have that fast ram available as opposed to the slower SDRAM if I can get it. There's also some MCUs with significantly more flash memory, 2MB, but a bit pricy compared to the H750.

Thanks for doing that, I was considering grabbing one right away for some of the same reasons, but now I will wait for you to test it out first :)
 
I’ve got a couple of them on the way, hoping the new ones are a seamless transition too… I asked about the new dev kits, it sounds like they’re coming in August, though I think they’ll be using the Seed2DFM for some reason… Searching 'seed2 dev kit pinout’ finds a pinout PDF for the eurorack dev kit.
 
My Seed3 arrived last night! They went very minimal on packaging, just a tiny box the size of the Daisy Seed itself. I really like the USB-C, I didn't think it would matter much to me but I would never go back to micro.

I tested the Seed3 out on my Funbox pedal and the 125B bksheperd pedal with the screen, and both worked right out of the gate using the online electrosmith flashing tool and same firmware. I also did a noise test and you can tell from ReaEQ that the noise floor of the Seed3 is lower (using exact same firmware, same levels on the guitar/audio interface/pedal knobs. It wasn't a magic fix for the high frequency noise on the Funbox, as you can see from the diagrams, but there were no high frequency spikes on the bksheperd pedal as before. Goes to show proper spacing and filtering for mixed signal design is the answer to the high frequency noise (related to audio block conversion) on Daisy Seed pedals.

Anyway I'm very happy with this new Seed, just enough improvements to make life better, but keeping everything backwards compatible so all the work I've done up to now is still valid. Props to Electrosmith on taking this direction for the new hardware.

Btw one of the Electrosmith founders commented on the Daisy forum that we can expect hardware with new MCUs, probably 2027. They also mentioned they are not working on a Seed 3 DFM, citing that since the Seed DFM is for manufacturing they didn't want to introduce changes as quickly as the flagship daisy seed product.

Here are noise comparisons (with a guitar plugged in), note the slightly lower noise floor in the high frequency end on the Seed3 compared to original.

Great report man!

I was kinda bummed out I ordered all these seeds right as they were preparing to switch to v3 .
Glad to know they switched to usb c - I despise the other usb port , I always feel like I'm eventually going to plug it backwards and break the stupid port XD
