Been testing my LM386 garage amp and noticed on my jag I had a hard time getting things to compress. Since this is a psuedo dumble voiced thing I thought it would be cool to put the Dumble FET boost at the front end of the circuit for the next run of boards. Grabbed the schematic for the BBC-1 / stumble and also looked up an old community trace of an ODS for comparison. After breadboarding all the variations I ended up taking everything from the BBC-1 except for a few tweaks:
- J201 biased to 7V
- Kept the original ODS FET resistor network at the input - 1M and 3.3M
- Kept the original ODS FET source network at 8.2K and 4u7 in parallel instead of the BBC-1 spec.
- Swapped the output pot for B25. The stock B10 didn’t get up to unity for over half its range and for the final application here more louder made more sense.
Result is something a tiny bit less reserved than the BBC1 pedal - more coloration, almost gets into rangemaster territory with a hot Tele bridge. I’m really happy with this combo and how it sounds slamming this little amp chip. Will record a demo when I get the new circuit put together. For now I boxed up the breadboard results in this as a reference.
