Necro bumping this one, as I'm in the same boat: absolutely love the sound, just want less bass/less 'thick'. Built one on vero last night (so I can have an extra toggle up top), and would love to find a way to make it a little 'leaner'. It's probably the best MIAB I've come across for nailing...

YAY!! Mine is in my 'build queue', as I have a few others in progress for my cousins. I've always intended on having two flangers: one 'jet'-based (either MXR or ADA), and one 'sweeter' (Electric Mistress, Ibanez FL-301DX or Boss Hi-Band). Great to hear this build went well!

When I built out my first DS-1 clone (original '81 layout), I socketed the diodes and tried 1N914s, 1S2473s and then the 1S1588s. The 1588s sounded the most.......musical? - the other two, being played back-to-back, sounded harsh (to me, anyway). I thought I was hearing things, so I went back...

Yep, it's where I get mine. I've got a cache of at least 60 right now, so I'm going to be good for a while. I use these in any circuit that uses 1N4148/1N914s for clipping. Don't think I'm going back.

Well, I kinda take that back. I just checked my supply and I still have 6 with a wide band similar to that. But the color is a little darker and the band is further on the end of the diode, almost like a cap. The band on those in your pic almost looks flared out on the end.

Can't say for sure, but man, that blue band looks thicker/wider than any of the 1588s I have on hand.

Thanks guys. I'll give @BuddytheReow 's method a shot, then might try the Stops Rust variants. I've got enough half-used (if even that) spray paint cans in my house & garage to start a mini museum, and my OCD won't let it go.

Are you doing the coats (immediately) back-to-back, or waiting some time interval between?

I've been using Rustoleum Universal spray paint (with the pistol grip/trigger nozzle) in Titanium Silver and Pure Gold for a while now. The problem is, it's really hit/miss where or not I'm going to get a good smooth finish on top; i.e. smooth enough to apply a clear decal. Only reason I keep...

The HF-2 is really good and criminally underrated. I'd say it's kinda like a mix of 50-60% BF-2 and 40-50% Mistress. Playing a BF-2 back-to-back with the HF-2, the latter gets a better 'Cure' sound, IMO. I've got an HF-2 build in the works that I hope to get finished, someday. :)

Agreed. And I've made up my mind that I'm going to go this route. I want a STOCK VRH, Red Army OD and/or Triangle Muff, but with some increases in mids on tap.
