Griffin Ricochet (Surfy Bear Clone) Issues

I haven't housed mine yet, but I have another one going to a friend, and he already built an enclosure that's slightly smaller than a Fender 6g15 unit to mount his in. Mine will be closer to the SurfyBear form factor.

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

For those who haven't seen this thread, user mondxxi spotted a discrepancy between the SurfyBear schematic and the Ricochet. Changing R15 to a 1R5 (rather than 1k5) fixed this build for me. Haven't tried it with the improved mixer layout, but hoping to get to that today.

Griffin Ricochet (Surfy Bear Clone) Issues

Yep, that's definitely what "the original" schematic specifies, I'm not sure what he's looking at. As far as it being incorrect, if one keeps it from working at all, I'd call it wrong.

Griffin Ricochet (Surfy Bear Clone) Issues

So I finally revisited this pedal build after a couple of months of downtime, and found this post, well spotted on the resistor @mondxxi! I had re-populated all of the transistors using sockets this time, and bought a bunch of good quality parts (rather than the old ones I had left over from an...

Thanks for your analysis, much appreciated! I think I'm going back to basics with this circuit, and will try to get it working with the original mixer before anything else.

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

Last night, I pulled a handful of components to remove the improved mixer from the circuit (C17 & 20, R26, U1, RV4 & 5), I didn't have a B taper pot for the "original" mix control, so I used one of the A pots from the improved mixer for RV3. Now I get no hint of reverb, and voltage at TP1...

Interesting observations, thanks for sharing! A bit off track, but did you detect any heat on the MOSFETs? I've seen reports from the Surfybear kit builders that they had to heat sink them, but mine don't seem to even get warm.

I'm using separate A taper pots for the wet and dry mix as specified in the BOM, are you saying linear would be a better option?

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

In my case, yes. I've also used a bench power supply just to rule out the little wall wart as the source of the issue. I haven't made much progress since my last message, but I did start tracing the signal through the pedal. Too many projects, too little time...

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

Hmm, at least I'm not alone! I don't think we've damaged the MOSFETs, they're pretty simple devices, it would take more than a little static to damage them. I might pull the extra components for the improved mixer and see if it works that way. I did build a second unit at the same time for a...

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

I'm running into some trouble with this build, I'm not getting much output from the wet side of the mixer (I built the circuit with the improved mix controls.) When I dial back the dry side to almost nothing with the wet maxed out, I can hear the wet signal faintly, and can tell that the tone...

Excellent, I'm looking forward to hearing mine in action!

    Griffin Ricochet -SurfyBear clone

I started building a pair of these units over the weekend, and nearly got it finished when I realized I was shipped all IRF510s instead of a pair each of 510's and 9510's (Q5 isn't soldered in in the pic yet,) so I'm waiting for the replacement parts and considering my enclosure options...
