I'm tempted to just take all of those later components out and repopulate all of them. I've verified that it's not the ICs, the transistors, and the pots. Such a weird build for me.
Yes thanks! Found it right after I posted that question. Seems like the volume drop occurs at the blend pot and at R35-R37. Tried swapping out those resistors but no change. My vref was consistent throughout the pedal at around 6.4v. I guess the next step is swapping out the blend pot? I'm out...
Just bumping this again to see if anyone has any thoughts. Changing ICs had no impact. Id say it's close to a 50% volume drop when the effect is on, regardless of where the blend knob is. Moving the trimpot had no impact on the volume. I'm guessing there's a misplaced component in there but I...
This is great. I'd love to hear your observations on the tonal differences between that Triwatt and the 504. What has been your experiences with different pedals on both amps in terms of how they sound? Does the 504 get any dirt or is it clean like a blackface? I've never played a dr103 and have...
I used a set of Hammonds on my 18 watt. No complaints at all, though I have yet to love them as much as the Classic Tone in all of my other builds. I've toyed with rebuilding my Matamp using Mercury metal but the sticker shock is a bit astounding.
Mojotone is a good place to grab Heyboer iron...
I'm reupping this thread because I have the same issue. I get a chorus effect but the volume drops almost 50% with the effect engaged. I changed all of the ics with no change. Haven't tried the 2N5088s yet. Looking for other ideas...
I love love love this fuzz. It's my main dirty tone. Sounds really amazing through my Matamp clone. Just so much low end. I've got four other muffs and the only one I've liked close is the civil war/Russian muff. I went with four 2n5088s in this, all around 400 hFE I believe. I think on the...
Interesting data point. I'm pretty sure I bought my bag of 10 or 20 a few years ago when there was just more stock available. They worked well in the Son of Ben. No issues biasing either. I think had used some other J201s I had bought elsewhere that didn't work properly and switched to my stock...
From my experience (about 10 amp builds in), the chassis material doesn't have an impact on noise. Using metal film in the key spots is huge as is avoiding carbon comp resistors as well. I also have moved to only using 1W carbon comp for most areas of my builds. It should be noted that something...
