Looks great! Really dig the “Shogun” vibe of the artwork, looks very classy and minimalist. How’d you get it on the enclosure?
Would be curious what transistors you used and approx Hfe’s if you still remember. I just built one and am still in the process of swapping transistors to see what I...
“The Sun (XIX)” Fuzz- Si/Ge Sunface clones (Sunflower/Sandspur- PedalPCB)
Here’s my newest waterslide decal attempts. The artwork comes from “The Sun” card from the infamous occultist Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot deck. I figured it would be appropriate for the “Sunface” clones. The gold and...
Yes! That solved it- had to bend the middle leg over and switch it with pin 3 and now it’s biasing just like it should. Thank you, I wouldn’t have even considered that the collector was in the middle and the base is on the side. Now let’s see how it sounds!
Aha! So the L is a different pinout from the A I’m using in Q1? I have some 183B’s- also some A’s and L’s- got a couple 184B and C that I got for the Sabbath Distortion that have very high Hfe’s- might be worth experimenting with. I’m kind of a lower gain fuzz guy, I usually prefer Ge but...
I tried flipping them and Q2 read 9.2v and the bias controls wouldn’t touch it. I should probably go ahead and look up the 183 pin out though just in case as I’m not as familiar with them.
Trouble Biasing Q2 BC183 Sunface (PedalPCB Sandspur)
So I just got some more gain sorted BC183’s in and I decided to pull the BC108’s out of my Sandspur Fuzz (my first build btw, I think I’ve done about a dozen or so since then) and pop them in to see if I like it better than the BC108’s.
Q1...
Yeah Mick Ronson used the MK1.5 with a cocked wah I believe. The Soul Vendor is based on the MK3 for sure. I’m not saying it was a dead ringer for his tone per se but the massive amount of sustain reminded me of his playing.
I certainly don’t have a dark rig, my guitar is a Reverened Eastsider...
Whoa! Just built the Soul Vendor (my first Tonebender style build) and I am shocked how dang good this thing sounds right out the gate. Sustain for days!
Gnarlier than any fuzzface style circuit I’ve built but still very tight and well defined with rich harmonics. It’s nasty but not overly...
