Another odd observation (this seems to be new): The Volume of the unit is quite unpredictable. It sometimes turns louder or quieter when enganged (like a ghost operating the volume pot), stays at a certain volume and then may or may not change again. Sometimes it also does this between switches...

Thanks for your answer! I'll try some different 2N5088s! edit: switched those I had in there to a set of 290-320s (those were the highest rated I had here) and voila! --> more gain! That was easy... Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I made the mistake of thinking, that the Death by Fuzz is a great second build. After a lot of work and many mistakes I finally got it in something similar to a working condition. However, there are a few things that seem odd and make mine operate quite differently than this one...

I just built mine and it has significantly lower gain than yours. If I crank the gain it's kind of similar (still a bit lower I think), but the first 3/4 of the fuzz pot is more medium distortionish. Not quite as thick as yours on the lowest setting, too. Also, the volume boost on the tone pot...
