These two are grouped together in one report only due to having similar finishes. I found this "color shift" spray paint that's pretty cool. It has to be sprayed over black and the turbo fuzz got a coat of "hammered copper" textured spray paint to try and get more interesting effects with the color shift. I'm pretty happy with both.
Sounds - well the turbo fuzz from moonn is a standard superfuzz so it sounds great. I love a good octave fuzz and I understand this one to be used famously by some bass players, Yauch being the first to come to mind. Not really tone chasing anyone, just figured i should have one in case my other 5 octave fuzzes aren't cutting the mustard. I didn't do any mods, just socketed the diodes. I liked many but I landed on some 1n695. Not my new number 1 octave fuzz or anything but I'm enjoying the unique flavor.
The basstortr is pretty interesting. I had never messed with an authentic. I thought it was ugly and hated the landscape 1590b with side jacks that zvex insists on inflicting on us. I was also a bit of an "only fuzz is valid" kind of guy when they hit the market. I've since heard a few bassists say they love it for the low gain touch of dirt setting. I've used a chop shop in the past for this type of sound, currently using a phat phuk b. Side by side all three "do the thing" really well. It's pretty hard to say which is my favorite. The basstortr can get dirtier than the others though I'll grab the chuck d bones bass klon for the more medium gain sounds over this one.
The tone control gets a bit dark quickly so I didn't have much use for it backed off lower than say 2:00. I also feel like it colors your tone more than the others mentioned but not in a bad way. I was assuming it was going to be a bass yats or bass rat but obviously, 3 mosfets do not make yatses or ratses. I think I'll be sticking with the phat phuk b for now but the distortr would make a fine substitute.
