I ruined a EHX crying tone

Thread title.

This is the result of my long running Feud with Mike Matthews. You know what you did, Mike.

So, I took apart his shitty pedal, and totally purposefully destroyed the el rad inductor that I was trying to pull off the circuit board to measure.

So with that being the case, and because I bought this thing cheap with multiple horribly implemented mods and broken rotary switches: I decided that nothing was sacred. Everything is computer.

With a newfound sense of rage, I went about stripping out all the old shitty capacitors and populating the unpopulated portion of the board that corresponds to the IC variant of the Muff Fuzz.

I threw in a *famous* Stalo(tm) inductor. All the old polyester caps I swapped with polypropylene or polystyrene. The 10uf cap off the inductor I replaced with a polyester film 4.7uf cap, cause why the fuck not.

I added a 2.1mm center negative plug for 9Vac power supply, and my own Stickman Industrial LLC official "don't fuck up my wah" (TM) power filtration and protection board.

I also added a few mods to the Muff Fuzz, with thanks to Friend The Additional Injury (@BuddytheReow). A switchable set of hard clipping LEDs and a gain control tweakable from the backside of the board.

How's it sound? While I haven't plugged it in yet: like angels singing over the cries of the children I have working in my factory.

Excellent thread.

Now to decide whether I should follow suite with your lithesome figure and unravel the loathsome circuit within mine own Crying-Tone Zone and rebuild Phoenix-like from the ashes of burnt out wage-slavers, their tears vaporised before their very eyes, the mercurial essence of waht they've accomplished ...

... Or just use it as an over-gorified expression pedal.

I highly recommend building out the fuzz. I dig it. Not super wooly, but damn. I love it.

Plugged in, everything is good! But...well...

Ok. Reverse sweep is garbage. Volume control is...meh. I'm thinking one of those is gonna need to be swapped with an external gain pot for the fuzz.

The 47nf and 100nf sweep caps are ridiculous. I'm gonna swap those for more reasonable values.

Also...strangely...mine came with 2n5088s and a 270 ohm resistor off the emitter of R1. The schematics I've seen call for 2N3565s and a more traditional 470 ohm off the emitter of Q1.

I found some 2N3565s and slapped em in there, but the 270 ohm on Q1's emitter is a bit too low. The pedal oscillates in the heel down position a bit. Gonna need to bump that guy up a touch.
