Aion Solaris and Effects Layouts Prismatic with XTS Mod

This is my first build report since last summer. Starting in July I was basically working 2 jobs through November, or at least a job-and-a-half most days. Sometime in October I had things in stride and realized I had time to squeeze in a bit of pedal building. Then I got hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk. I had to have knee surgery was dealing with recovering from that, which I still am.

By April I was able to start on a Aion Solaris Fuzz Face kit I had bought months before. I liked the flexibility the extra controls my Fulltone 69 had, but I liked the sound of my PedalPCB Sunflower better. I was hoping the Aion kit with the extra knobs and its pre selected Ge transistors would be a quick easy solution. And it is! Sold the 69.

Then I got to a project that @CR0SSBL4DE developed last year. I was able to provide him with photos of the inside of a XTS GE7 and he charted the differences between the various GE7 versions. That's detailed here:

I then took that information and built an Effects Layout Prismatic GE7, with substituted parts to make it a XTS version. From what I remember about the XTS I had borrowed, it seems like it is the same. I will be able to compare it to that pedal again to see how close / off my build is. My inspiration for the graphic design was the generic government food products.

Not PedalPCB projects but I have 3 on deck!

I compared the real XTS with my build today. The mods implemented to the Prismatic PCB pretty much nails it. Two things we noticed was the 400 on mine adds more low/bass frequencies than the XTS, and the Q on the XTS is a bit tighter on all the frequencies. There are a couple things I can think of that could explain differences. Of the list of parts that were substitutions to the stock circuit, I also had to make about 5 substitutions I had that were “close enough,” and of course there are general part tolerances. But it’s effectively a match. And an idea I had about 2 years ago is done!
