Is it contest time again?

Breadboard Baker
It’s been a while since there’s been a circuit design or ANY contest for that matter (I miss Fig’s “Guess the Number” contest). Anybody here interested in hosting or participating in one? Just trying to gauge general interest. This thread could also be used any future contest ideas.

Or is everybody too busy going through/adding to their build backlog?

Allow me to start a brainstorm: what kind of contests have y’all done? A cursory search up top shows some straight giveaways, a design challenge, and a raffle. Alt (any) others?

Call me BJT biased (pun intended), but I am a fan of the circuit design contests. It's a pretty cool way to see what people come up with and you might learn something too along the way (gasp). Raffles, giveaways, and "Guess the Number" aren't really contests IMO, but rather a fun way to engage this community. Also memes.

I think another cool idea would be an enclosure design contest to see who's got the best graphic design chops. Haven't seen that one yet here.

I'm almost afraid to see who can post the best meme.

This time of year might not be the best since it's vacation and house project season for a lot of you folks, so that's a factor to consider. I could be pleasantly surprised. Design contests also take longer to run. People need to find the time to breadboard, simulate, make a stripboard or PCB, test it, tweak it, write up a schematic, and post it. A month to 6 weeks at a minimum.

That being said, I wouldn't mind kicking something off now, but I don't have a sweet prize (or prizes) in mind or in my inventory. My building process has nearly stopped recently (just check my last build report), so I'll need someone to help judge and/or kick up a cool prize as an incentive.

Any thoughts?

I would like to see a contest where the object is an actual build? I don’t see a lot of build reports these days and I think with a prize on the line and the spirit of competition we might bring some of the old creativity out of the woodwork we use to see like for the build of the year contests. Maybe if I get my 💩 together I might do something like this in April.

A modification contest could be cool.
All entries must:
-fit on a PPCB PCB, kludge aside
-be boxed and a functional demo produced.
-be clearly documented, either by schematic or RefDes substitutions
-have at least one new control or substitute one or more controls for a new control. Control is defined as pot, switch or any other item that can be interacted with(treddle, ldr, etc)

Might be cool to limit it to a circuit or a list of circuits?
