In the beginning of 2025, I decided it was time I built my first king of tone. While at it, why not build two of those. It’s not that it a complex build, but time started missing, then it was motivation.
And I started moving things around and played with the jester mods.
I don't like the knob layout of the aion board, mirror will not do, I want both sides to be laid out identically. And the tone knob needs to be centered, it's only my opinion.
I used 1590bb2 from tayda, it's barely deep enough. I had luck with the two electros on the small board. And the white enclosure has a thick casting, which threw off my calculation for the jacks, I had to shave some material off.
Tried to go most original as possible on the white one except 1uf film caps, the ones I ordered were huge. Paid 2.50$ / diode from smallbear on the soft clippers. I found those to be more discrete than the BAS33 in the black one. The black one I went with all wima caps and the mods to cut the highs.
Black one has all dip switches external. White one uses 3 positions switches to select betweed od - boost - dist.
Wiring was a mess, but both started first try. I got to find a short in the red side of the black one. Soft clippers are always on even if the switch is working fine.
I was not sure at first, but I kind of like the sound of this pedal, you need to play with it to find your sound but it’s versatile.
Anyway, here they are. Design is gloss over matte finishes. Text is not crisp enough, but it’s ok.
