Zonk

Early in my pedal building journey, when I was still buying the occasional kit, I bought a ppcb zonk kit from musikding. I had no transistor stash, no testing equipment other than a terrible radio shack brand multimeter. I was curious about the zonky and had just enough experience to know it was out of my reach to source my own transistors. Unfortunately that ended up in the box of shame, passed signal but sounded thin and weak. I recently rescued the germs and ordered a fresh pcb and this time it turned out much better.

This one's a little darker sounding than some of the demos I've heard like the one @Guilherme Collateral posted in his zonk report but I'm still digging it. It may not be a personal favorite and I definitely don't have any use for it on bass but I'm not feeling drawn to gift it away or anything.

That's definitely it. Excess random lengths of wire are known to cause darkness. Everyone knows that. It's odd how in the wide shot the input wire looks perfectly well connected to the switch but in the CU it looks like it's making no contact at all. What sort of weirdness is that?? Witchcraft? The curse of Zonk??

I dig the paint job

Thanks, I bought some matte black enclosures a long time ago and we all know how those things are. Thought I'd try something so I got this acrylic set and have been pretty happy with the results. I'm not painting the lids because I'm not sure how strong this paint is, I want the dual lock to stay where it is. I did one with a sand texture black enclosure (see my DBA germanium filter build report) and that one turned out the most even. I also like the streaky look though. For whatever reason the metallic colors make me think of the stuff I saw for sale at an early 90's church bazaar.
