Are these 1S1588 counterfeits?

I do not recall where I purchased these. But, snake oil or not, Is there a relatively easy way to tell if these are legitimate Toshiba 1S1588 diodes?

Well, I kinda take that back.
I just checked my supply and I still have 6 with a wide band similar to that. But the color is a little darker and the band is further on the end of the diode, almost like a cap. The band on those in your pic almost looks flared out on the end.

They look different depending on the angle of the pic. Sometimes it looks like a blue cap sometimes it looks like a band.
Sometimes it's hard to see the middle band.

This is the only place I will buy them from. I don't have to guess if they're legit or not. Now whether they're in spec or not is a different story.
The only spec I really care about if forward voltage, and every vintage style pedal I've put them in has sounded awesome.

Yep, it's where I get mine. I've got a cache of at least 60 right now, so I'm going to be good for a while.
I use these in any circuit that uses 1N4148/1N914s for clipping. Don't think I'm going back.

I was wondering about this too...

What is the benefit of using these over a 1N4148 or 1N914? Genuinely asking, I'm not familiar with these diodes.
When I built out my first DS-1 clone (original '81 layout), I socketed the diodes and tried 1N914s, 1S2473s and then the 1S1588s.
The 1588s sounded the most.......musical? - the other two, being played back-to-back, sounded harsh (to me, anyway). I thought I was hearing things, so I went back and tried the 2473s again, and nope - the 1588s sounded better.
I might still 'roll' through some diode types in the future, but will likely use 1588s as my default clippers.

Thanks everyone. these are going in to a "Little Green Scream machine" build. I am excited to use sockets to test different diodes. In the same build it calls for a 1n5187 protection diode. Will a in4001, 1n4002 work the same even though, (as I understand it) they provide slightly less voltage to the circuit? might I notice any difference in sound even through a very revealing BF Fender amp?
