Drive Like Jehu is one of my all-time favorite bands and when I saw Way Huge had made a limited edition Jehu Drive combining their two best drive circuits (Rhino and Llama) into a limited edition enclosure and named it Jehu Drive, I knew I needed to make one of my own.

I used two AionFX boards: Yacana and Karkadann and wired up a 3pdt switch to change the order. Then for the indicator lights, I used red and green for the respective drive. Other than the messy wiring which I'll just make a PCB for in the future, it was a straight forward build. I went with the Drive Like Jehu aesthetic and used paint pens on a white enclosure to mimic their amazing Yank Crime album.

As far as the drive goes, they both give interesting sounds but I really like Green Rhino into the Red Llama the most. Now the kicker is, Drive Like Jehu just used Les Paul's into cranked Marshalls and never used pedals in their initial incarnation... so, really I just had an idea for a pedal design and did it.

I remember first hearing Drive Like Jehu on the way to a Rocket from the Crypt show in New Orleans in, I believe, 1993! Even just hearing that name again is good times. Great build!
I would have love to have seen RFTC live.

Nice build! I need to explore using those connectors.

I got to see RFTC. And I thought I would never see DLJ, but was psyched when they did a reunion tour and caught them.

RFTC were fantastic live. It was at the Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans and their horn section about blew the walls off the place! And John Reis stepped off the stage to personally toss out a guy whose vibe was throwing off the good times. Definitely wish I could have seen DLJ though!

Seen all three! Dig all three! Lucky me, I guess. I was about to note the lack of pedals thing. I think their sound is all guitar, 'tudes, and ferocious attack.

I do love me some sweaty Hawaiian shirted San Diegans, and screamy skinny guys with weird guitars. Long live the Shamu rockers. RIP Rick Fork/Froberg, and a big FU to the American health care system.

Yeah, I know they were all amps, Les Pauls, and attitude as you say.

They were amazing live.
Speedo has always played solid rock parts on a Les Paul (some augured out), but I think Rick has had more varied guitars. Like a funky teisco or some such-- whatever it is, he always chooses similar trebly stuff for the angular playing he does.

[Edit: Rick might be the consistent one: Harmony Bobkat. Here's an article on Reis' guitars: https://reverb.com/news/maimed-les-...kup-swaps-the-guitars-of-hot-snakes-john-reis]

Fun fact, the bassist and guitarist of RFTC used to own a bar [the Live Wire] near my old neighborhood in San Diego. I don't know if it's still there, though. San Dee has changed a lot

As much of a pedal geek (RIP) as I am, nothing sounds better than a cranked '60s-circuit tube amp.

But even in the rare situation that I can push those power tubes without attracting a visit from law enforcement, I value my hearing too much to enjoy it for long.

Anyway, that's a cool build. And your future self will be happy you didn't frequently try to get their sound by cranking a Marshall.
