Six String Stringer

I'm building the Six String Stinger pedal and trying to decide whether to use the indicated in5817 diode or sub in a germanium D9K or D9G.
I have all three on hand and can't decide.

Any suggestions? I used germanium on my Zen Drive and really like it.

I'm using Fairchild jfet j201s.
Thanks

I use sockets for my ICs but wasn't aware of sockets for diodes or resistors 😵‍💫
i don't remember what gave me the notion to search for these but it definitely started when i switched to lead free solder(hotter temps, trying to protect sensitive components), i was able to track down a bundle of socket strips, i can trim to length as needed, three for transistors, singles or strips (depending on pcb config) for other components. the ones i picked up from amazon don't always break super clean, but i haven't been able to pin down (see what i did there) a better bulk deal!

Solder these to the PCB then just stick the components in the hole or solder both?
Not sure if this helps, but you solder everything to the PCB except components in sockets (you do solder the sockets). And if you are happy with the given component you can even solder it into the socket for longevity.

This! This is how I test diodes in a circuit.
