Woodpecker q3 not oscillating

I got impatient and ordered my Q3 for the Woodpecker (Hummingbird) Tremolo (2N6027 PUT) from Amazon (Vanxy Brand).

So the LEDs both powered on, but the green one which I wired to the 3rd leg of q3 is solid, doesn’t pulse, and there is zero audible amplitude modulation.

I believe a few users here have warned about generic Chinese transistors, so I soldered in a pin header (the right type - gold plated round hole) so I could swap them out if needed. But I tried almost all of them from the pack, at least 8 and none of them work

The level control works, but depth and speed do nothing. Is it possible that ALL of my Amazon transistors are bad? I’m hoping that the good quality replacements I ordered from both stompboxparts and pedalpcb will be the fix.

Is it possible that this is the likely issue? Just a bad batch/brand of transistor? Nothing else seems wrong. The power is fine, i/o jacks are good, the switch gets continuity on my meter. I didn’t go through with the probe yet, but I also don’t feel like pulling it out if I don’t have to

So the plan is to wait for the alternate 2N6027 PUTs to arrive and just slot one in and test that. I’m just wondering now if I should be looking at anything else as far as troubleshooting goes

*also, should my second, lfo-responsive green led work in theory? It does light when powered on, but it’s not pulsing yet either way due to the PUT issue

This is how I wired it, cathode to far right leg of Q3 & anode spliced into main led anode wire

I had the same experience with the 2n6027 in my woodpecker. I forget if I got my first one from eBay or amazon, but it passed sound and didn’t oscillate like you’re describing. Replaced it with one from Mouser and all was well.

Good luck!

Perfect! Good to know, thanks so much

I suspected it but I was thrown off because it was every transistor in the pack

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

you guys were right. immediately worked after i put the good transistor in. my Smallbear Electronics package arrived before the pedalpcb one, and they both had the new transistors, so i used Small bear. but the first one i tried worked perfectly.

Also got the lfo pulsing 2nd led working, although i had to run the cathode to the middle pin of the 2n6027 Q3 transistor versus the far right, and its slightly dim, maybe because i put a 4.7k resistor between it and the existing main led anode wire. it actually stays fully lit when the pedal is switched off though, so not sure whats going on there. i dont know how to fix that
the pulsing led actually does pulse in time with the tremolo, i think the framerate or something in the video makes it appear sort of out of sync or slower or something:

it is a pretty hot signal coming out of there. i can turn the level knob down, but that also kind of reduces the effect of the pedal. i dont know if thats my fault or what. it sounds overdriven
