hey hope someone can help.....
I had this same problem with the trembling loon (which I ultimately destroyed by replacing components) and I dont want to blindly start ripping this apart.
Theres a buglight static noise. The gain is pretty high unlike the posts Ive read on here...I have to keep the gain almost all the way down. It seems to get worse the longer the pedal is on. I was going to mess with R2 or R3 but the fact that its the exact same problem I had with the loon is strange. Im not experienced I cannot read schematics well....I actually bought vactrols thinking I couldnt make one right and that was the problem. Hopefully the video works. I checked the power readings on the TL072 that seems ok. Ive successfully made pedals from pedalpcb but the tremolo is killing me...thanks!

I tried different power supplies with the loon because I boxed it up. This power supply is the only one that I can use while the circuit is out. This power supply has worked with all the other pedals I've built, does it sound like a power issue to you?

So it’s hard to see in the pics but are you sure you mounted the ldr in the right direction? Also you should always use sockets for your ics. If there is an issue with them you want to be able to change them easily and they can be damaged by the heat pretty easily.

Im pretty sure the ldr is right...however google image search is how i determined the orientation of the vactrol so I will def re-check that. And yeah from now on I will use sockets because I destroy pcbs when I attempt to unsolder something (especially an IC). Both of the TL072's came from the same box from amazon (this and the failed loon) soooo I was afraid it was the TL072.... it very well might be

I did attempt to check the TL072 with a multimeter in diode check mode before I installed it. For whatever thats worth. the reading were all pretty similar so no obvious out of wack pins. Ill probably end up ordering some chips from somewhere else but that will take a while

Possible. I'm trying to figure out everything common between the two pedals exhibiting the same problems.

You might be onto something with the TL072's, I dont trust Amazon for any electronic components myself. Very few from Tayda, only the ones I cannot find from my normal sources. I don't know why anyone would bother make fake TL072's that are so cheap and common but they could be some factory rejects someone got hold of. My normal sources are the standard pedal parts vendors like PedalPCB, Smallbear, etc... and major electronic suppliers like Mouser, Digikey or Jameco. About the only items I get from Ebay are Russian Germanium components from seller Alexer1 that has a storefront that starts with "SOVCOM..." who has proven to be a good source with great service and very fast to ship, but actual shipping can take a while as it comes through US Customs to me.

I can't read the label on the TL072, did it wash off when you cleaned the board? That's one of the classic signs of fake components, the label easily washed off with alcohol or the like.

One way to remove an IC without harming the board is use some nippers or fine pointed cutters to carefully cut each leg. Once the IC is out of the way each leg can easily be removed individually. Bad thing about this method is it renders the IC unusable, even if it turns out it was not the problem.

Smallbear is cool and somewhat local to me, so I like to support them, but my assumption is that Tayda probably has a more tightly controlled supply chain than small bear.

If I was building medical devices or weapons systems, I’d go Mouser all the way, but I trust Tayda plenty for pedal parts.

Ive been getting some parts from stompboxparts.com...like the potentiometers and some components. any opinions on that site?

I get parts from them, all have been good quality.

Then it may not be an issue. If the label didn't change it's probably a real part. If label totally washed off then more probable it's fake. But again TL072 is such a common low cost chip I don't see why it would be faked. Mouser has some for $5.65/10, that's 56.5 cents a chip.
