Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

Alright. Here's v4 with your suggestions, Chuck. I did have a good 25 min after dinner to play around with it and I do like the 1st gain stage structure now. It's also still interactive with my guitar. Dial both knobs back and it's pretty much a dirty boost. Then it goes into OD territory, then...

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

I'll try my previous gain control, but with your values. The way I had it previously, control wasn't doing much. Then again, I do have hot pickups and had more luck using my guitar's volume instead. I'll also try removing C4 and see if that does anything.

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

Sometimes you have to step away for a bit and come back with fresh ears. I mentioned that this circuit is very dynamic responsive and interacts greatly with your guitar's volume knob. Like most players, I tend to just dime that shit and adjust my pedal accordingly. Moving the gain control in...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Barber Small Fry (PPCB Tater Tot)

It might help others understand what we're talking about if there's a schematic close by. I have 2 more "circuit analysis" questions on this. 1. What is the purpose of D8? Is it just half of a hard clipper pair? 2. What does C6 do in the hard clipping section? Does this create a low pass...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Barber Small Fry (PPCB Tater Tot)

Curious. What is the fundamental difference between the PRES and SHAPE controls as per the PPCB schematic? They are identical from a topology standpoint. Are they just different corner frequencies to adjust similar to how a Rat has 2?

Aren't the BASS and MID controls very interactive with each other since they're tied together?

    Sanding down spray paint crackle/bubbles?

I use 220 or 120 grit depending how much I want to take off. I would use 220 just to take the texture off. If you hit the bare enclosure that’s ok. You’re going to spray paint it anyways. In the winter months you can kiiiiind of get away with keeping the enclosure inside to get to room...

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

Thanks, Chuck. Just something I found while wandering the net a while ago and wanted to try it out. I wonder if this method could work on other passive filters. So, here's version 2 with an increased HARMONICS control and the active Volume control. TBH, I tried the volume control and it didn't...

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

In my head I had switched up inverting and noninverting gain calcs. This is definitely a better use for that last opamp. I'll try it on my board and circle back here. There probably won't be much difference in sound, but all the parts will be utilized. What are your thoughts on the HARMONICS...

But, wouldn't that just make the control a boost control instead of just volume? It's already decently loud enough as is compared some of my other pedals out there.

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

Sorry, Chuck. I put the schematic together right before bed last night and realized what I did. The TONE knob pinout top/bottom is 1,2,3. Horizontal pots are left/right 1,2,3.

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

It does! I stumbled upon this on the net a while ago. The circuit was called "Bigger Muff" and also had the AMZ presence control in it. I took it out and worked just like a regular BMP stack! I had no idea what C2 is doing in there or what it was trying to accomplish. But, I was happy with the...

Buddy's Breadboard and Circuit Design Notes

Here's a nice one I cooked up recently. First, a little backstory. Months ago, I was interested in playing around with some EQ notch controls/snippets. To do that, I needed a working circuit block beforehand and chose the Mini Muffin Fuzz due to the parts counts. The notch controls got a 'meh'...

Designing myself a breadboard prototyping rig

On mine, I put a LED indicator to let me know the circuit is on. Also a tone generator to see if my circuit is working/alive. Oh, and a built in probe that can also be used for a voltage meter.

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

Other than the power supply section, they all affect the tone in some way, shape, or form if modified. Is there a goal you are trying to accomplish? Your question is very vague.
