Just a thought- companies like Boss etc are building to a price point, so the less time they spend getting a working board that fits in their enclosure, the better off they are. Making it look pretty is likely not very high on their list of priorities.

One tip I can give with using modern carbon/metal film….not huge with tweeds, but as you get into bigger amps, is that compared to the old resistors, their overall length including leads is shorter…so go up a size! Where the originals used 1/2 watt carbon comp (or carbon films in Marshall’s)...

When you’ve been doing it as long as some of us (over 40yrs myself), not only do you know the CC, you also know the CC of the more common resistors on sight! The 5 band/1% resistors still throw me though since I spent the majority of my life working with carbon comp and carbon film types.
