    Salesman PCB- Available Now!

“I think I’ve built/ have queued more than enough drive pedals to last me. No more” -me Chili dog released; “Take my money!!!!” - also me. Can’t lie- I’m pretty excited for this one!

    Aion PCB's

Just a thought- companies like Boss etc are building to a price point, so the less time they spend getting a working board that fits in their enclosure, the better off they are. Making it look pretty is likely not very high on their list of priorities.

    125B PedalPCB standard spacing?

They can move quite a bit. Wishing I had access to a milling machine as holding spacing is a bit easier. I’ve also found with the typical drill press, a heavy drill press vice to keep it the box from moving, coupled with center punch then center drill then use a good step bit will mitigate...

    Grounding One Jack or Both?

Now if I put 2 boards in the same enclosure I’ll run the ground to the input from one board and the ground from output of the other and not touch the other 2 (figure both boards will have grounds bussed through the power connector)

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

I know that back in the early 2000s, when folks finally realized that the OT in the plexi reissues were the real weak link (and not the fact they were PCB), I put a LOT of transformers in for folks. Many like the MM, mainly due to the publicity Plexi Palace gave them, and rightfully so- they...

    What's on the workbench?

If I’m lucky mine will get a sticker… most just get the Sharpie treatment. I don’t play out, and don’t sell them, so for me I’d rather build and play than learn how to be a graphic design artist lol

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

One tip I can give with using modern carbon/metal film….not huge with tweeds, but as you get into bigger amps, is that compared to the old resistors, their overall length including leads is shorter…so go up a size! Where the originals used 1/2 watt carbon comp (or carbon films in Marshall’s)...

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

Being in the home of the kangaroos, you are only a short hop (pun intended) away from one of the best minds in the transformer world- New Zeland’s own Simcha Delft! Some will disagree, but let’s just say, I’ve done blind a/b tests with some of the best ears, where carbon comp, carbon film, and...

    Need epoxy for potting

If he’s asking for any reason outside of enviroproofing it etc… big time! Not criticizing but it is funny given what most of us build lol Tangent to this: I saw on another forum a while back an actual big name pedal builder correct the schematics someone posted of one of his pedals 🤣 then...

    Need epoxy for potting

If you are the same one who posted this on Facebook sorry for the double. But it needs said: Be careful with whatever black epoxy you use. One of the more common pigments used is carbon based, which is conductive (I’ve used some of it in the past) A quick search found an electronic grade...

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

It was definitely a labor of love when I did it professionally! Since you had to price to meet the market, and essentially only charge 2x material costs for the total build, my hourly rate dropped from $60/hr for mods/repairs to roughly 1/4 that for builds. This is also where you really...

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to transformers. From my experience, your cost in parts to build a specific amp will be very close to what the mass produced machine built of version of the amp costs. That said, I fully agree with the sentiment to buy the right iron to begin...

CNC Machined top for Wilkinson tremolo bridge

I’m sure you’ll be fine! Glad to see you took the time to set up as CNC though- you’ll be able to knock out more for other guitars etc a lot less effort than the first one!

CNC Machined top for Wilkinson tremolo bridge

I’d bet if it’s good quality steel and you aren’t abusing it they’ll last a long time. Real Floyd roses are hardened quite a bit, but they are designed to be abused. Some of the Japanese knock off “licensed” bridges were not so much, but they were so soft steel that heavy use would actually...

    What's on the workbench?

When you’ve been doing it as long as some of us (over 40yrs myself), not only do you know the CC, you also know the CC of the more common resistors on sight! The 5 band/1% resistors still throw me though since I spent the majority of my life working with carbon comp and carbon film types.

Did you heat treat the whole thing or just the knife edges?

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

Also good recommendations. And let me also add, if you are considering an 18watt or 5e3, a 5f6 bassman/marshall plexi build isn’t that much more difficult. You are still in the moderate gain territory and no craziness to have to deal with the likely oscillations and ground buzz/hum issues...

Trying to decide which amp to build next...

5e3. They are fun as they are, and other than putting a master volume in the second speaker jack, most folks love them as they are (ask Larry Carlton, Don Felder, Billy Gibbons or Joe Walsh ) the 18w, most people end up modding after a bit and get tired of it… it’s not exactly Marshall...

Genuine parts source- ICL8038 and BC560

Thank you for the heads up! Just wish I would have seen this before making my orders. May have to delay or use the 2n3906 though- can’t justify $10 shipping on a $0.03 part 🤣😂 Edit: of course, in typical fashion, day after i make orders, i end up with a folloup order as i forgot a few...
