What's your favorite "Swiss Army Knife" dirt pedal

I sorta jumped the shark and missed the "dirt" part

What's your favorite "Swiss Army Knife" dirt pedal

I'm about to cause a stink... You know what pedals I consider the ultimate Swiss Army Knife pedals without going full programable/Kemper/Helix/etc? The Line 6 DM4, DL4, and MM4... Had those three on my board for YEARS, with a Way Huge Green Rhino and Aquapuss... just as a backup. You could...

    Death to the King

I will agree to that... and certainly don't blame someone for protecting their intellectual property... I'm talking about the "magic diodes". Perhaps it wouldn't have been a big deal when the pedals were still in production by Bill, but now that the genie has been out if the bottle for many...

    Death to the King

I'll say it, so the others hiding in the shadows remain safe... I don't like the sound of a Klon, and $7,000 fir one is a monumental waste of money... You could easily buy a Refin/player grade 60's Strat for that kind of money... or a pair of blackface Super Reverb amps... Side note "The...

Glory hole build need more gain

I gave this a shot and decreased the size of C10 from 470p to 220p. I added a toggle to switch R7 between the stock 220k and 1m. Great gain increase, however now the pedal behaves as if the High Cut switch doesn't work at all. I didn't really use the high cut before anyway, but I would still...

Glory hole build need more gain

I'm really glad I just saw this. So, I love the idea of adding switches and mods to get more variety, however, sometimes my brain gets in the way. I install heat pumps and so my entire mentality is centered on "if it touches, it's "shorted". So looking at your photo, I'm seeing you have a lead...

    Acrylic Overdrive - no sound

Awesome. that gets me in the ballpark. I'm guessing that's equal bias across all three trim pots and test at ? So, given my limited knowledge of circuitry (this is only my second time dealing with bias pots, I can assume I need to test for proper voltage bias at the collector leg of the J201's...

    Acrylic Overdrive - no sound

Just curious (as I am about to start this build myself) if there is a default trim pot setting or how one goes about that. I checked the documentation and found nothing that stood out explanation-wise

    Amp tilt back legs

My 1966 Super reverb is a couple inches shorter than my later 70's Master Volume Super Reverb FWIW

    Pedal assembly jig

Same. I just drill my holes with a step-up bit and it gives me a little bit of wiggle room. I install pots by holding my thumb on the component side of the PCB, pinkie on the front of the pot and use my index and middle to guide my solder to attach the center leg. Once all are attached "good...

I'm more curious as to why it would be making such a big, audible difference in volume. I kinda expected it to do very little

If you've played the JHS Screamer, it has the "Strong mod" switch that cleans up and flattens out the eq of the signal a bit with a significant volume boost... That's kinda what this is doing. Also, it sounds best (to my ear) with the bass and treble rolled almost all the way off...

I had a different result with mine... I did an On/off/on switch. When the resistor is disengaged, it's tight and compressed (I have the gain set relatively high). When I engage the resistor, I get a significant volume boost and the drive falls underneath the sound with a higher volume cleaner...

Already on that. I soldered in two jumper wires so I can place it remotely. THANKFULLY this pcb is rather small, so I'll have room. Maybe this could spawn am option in the build docs so someone could get both pedals in one 🤔

    Re-capping old pedals???

I will say, I did pull a I will say, I had a DL4 that started sounding really bad after a show with bad power. All the delays sounded duller and more bass. Puisheen on YouTube said his did the same thing and opted to buy a new one. Some pages advised checking the 1000uf Electrolytic cap near...

    Re-capping old pedals???

Gotcha... kinda like Mason from Vertex with his pedalboards, wah, or his Steel String "oRiGiNaL dEsIgNs"

    Re-capping old pedals???

I was really disappointed with the TS-808. I've used a bunch of TS pedals over the years, but the 808 I bought new sounds so weak. I think the JHS Screamer and the Ibanez Tone Lok TS-7 are probably the best I heard. Also, on the Vemuram, I heard there was some controversy about them but the...

I'm building one currently. I'm going to use the "high gain" version 1meg pot, then put the "Low gain" 3k3 on a toggle so I can have both options. Anyone see any issues with this working?

    Re-capping old pedals???

Agree... I mean, I like banter, but nothing worse than listening to a live stream/podcast for the topic at hand hand having 50 minutes of banter and joking and 10 minutes of the content you came for... ESPECIALLY if a bunch of ads and sponsors are involved
