Art vs no art for resale

The art is one of my favourite parts about building. I find it stressful, but rewarding and ties the whole thing together. That said, I don't do a lot of builds for other people and I try not to build for folks who just want a clone for as cheap as possible. Where I'm at these days is if you...

    Son of Ben Preamp

Yeah, I try to build a few things at once when I can too. I still use Tayda for most stuff though, as shipping to Canada gets rough quickly

    Son of Ben Preamp

Nice. Hoping to finish mine soon. Just waiting on parts. What made you build 3 at once?

    Half my J201s are bad?

Hmm. Finally made time to measure my J201s using the info on the ROG site, but my readings seem very off. Vp on most of them seems to be between 1-1.5v and Idss measures 0.100mA to 0.150mA (if I'm doing the adjustments correctly). I've got one that seems fine (within the ranges on the ROG...

ARACHNID DIED AFTER I TOUCHED SOMETHING...

I don't think you need to do anything to the mix pot. Just test it---if you turn it all the way down do you get your dry signal at all? That would tell you if that section of the circuit is working. The FV-1 has internal programs (a few reverbs, etc.) that don't require an EEPROM to access...

ARACHNID DIED AFTER I TOUCHED SOMETHING...

Yeah, as @PJS said, I'd try grounding pin 13 of the FV-1 to see if the internal programs work. They don't require an EEPROM at all, so if you get an effected signal with pin 13 grounded you can at least rule out most of the board. Does your mix pot work---do you get any dry signal if you roll...

A growing collection of videos of PedalPCB pedals used on synths

Figured I'd revive this old thread of mine instead of starting a new one, as I did a video showing a bunch of pedals used on a MicroFreak and many of them are PedalPCB projects. Hopefully this is interesting to someone!

PedalPCB Gravitation Reverb for my SCHMORG

No worries! That's exactly how I expected it to work too and was kind of underwhelmed. It would be nice to filter out some of the highs that can get out of hand with the atmosphere control cranked. Interesting reverb, regardless!

PedalPCB Gravitation Reverb for my SCHMORG

My understanding of the tone control, based on Youtube demos (like this one and this one) and the one I just populated, is the opposite of that---it's more of a low cut. With the tone knob maxed out you get the full frequency range hitting the reverb, but as you dial the tone knob back it...

    DEMO Two Low Tide Minis

Love those enclosures. Great job! Interesting about running it in stereo, as I have a friend asking me to try that too and maybe build a stereo unit. I just finished a regular Low Tide and have a Mini here waiting on a few size-appropriate parts and headers. Looking forward to boxing it up.

    Low Tide Modulator

Hoping to do that soon! Just have to get parts to finish my Low Tide Mini, then I was going to take them both to a friend who has a real Shallow Water

    Low Tide Modulator

A friend suggested I try this pedal on synths and so far so good! Was thinking about trying it on vocals too

BBW, Crunch Captain, and Gravitation reverb : Very pleased and impressed.

Thanks so much! I enjoy colourful/unique looking pedals. Ha

BBW, Crunch Captain, and Gravitation reverb : Very pleased and impressed.

Nice. I haven't used acrylic too much on mine, but do a lot of hand drawing with paint pens and have been experimenting with DIY stencils for spray painting. Looking forward to trying the Gravitation.

Wow. Missed these. Beautiful art. Are they hand painted? Working on a Gravitation board as we speak!

    Low Tide Modulator

Through a few big parts orders and the kindness of @Laundryroom David, I finally got all the parts together to build this Low Tide board I've been sitting on for a while. Seemed to work fine, but I noticed some farty/distorted output depending on the settings. Figured it would be the SMD...

    Half my J201s are bad?

Yeah, makes sense. I've got a large stash of through-hole components, but have started dabbling in SMD more and more as that stash dwindles.

    Half my J201s are bad?

Ha. Thanks! The good news is I have about 10 through-hole J201s that seemed fine, but will measure them all at some point to be sure. Also seems like a good time to keep making the switch to SMD.

    Half my J201s are bad?

Haven't had the chance to actually measure them yet--just popped them into my Low Tide to see how they behaved. I'd say a few sound more out of spec than dead, but most of the "bad" ones cause a huge volume drop and distorted signal. I'll do some actual measurements at some point and see...

    Half my J201s are bad?

Yeah, these are ancient. Been hoarding them for a while. First time I've had issues using one from this batch, but I must have gotten lucky, as half appear to be bad.
