Trying to find out what transistor gain and leakage requirements are for this pedal since the originals are not obtainable. Also, has anybody subbed in any BC183 silicone transistors? Wondering if it will work. Thanks in advance!

What are the acceptable transistor gain and leakage readings for this pedal? Currently looking to build one. Thanks.

SOLVED The gremlins return: LED-based switch pop

Did you try removing the LED the see if it still pops? Ive usually found that its not the LED, in my cases at least...worth a shot though.

I agree. I’ve built more than one and I usually have to turn volume up to 2 or 3 o’clock to reach unity.

What did you use for the W25k and C150k pots? Thanks.

    Simulcast

Yes, I like it better at 9v as well. Awesome, just wanted to make sure it was that easy. Many thanks!!

Will this pedal operate at 9V by just yanking the charge pump ic (with no modifications)?

Not an expert, but It doesn’t seem to effect sound quality to my ears. All it does is block DC from the signal path from my understanding.

Btw, I use film caps in lieu of electrolytic on C9 and C20 to avoid popping from DC leakage. The last one I built had this issue. I’ve been told you can use tantalums there too but I don’t have any.

T Thanks! No issues, fired right up! It’s like the 5th one I’ve built. Recommend you socket the diodes and the “high gain” resistors so you can play around.

I’m focusing my attention on a Tele build these days but managed to squeeze these 2 in. Nothing fancy but I’m pretty happy with the final results. I usually don’t mess with a battery option but I added it into these 2. I did a lot of socketing on the Paragon and hardwired the stomps.

Killer work! How’s it sound? Been thinking about building me one.

Veroboard - Is it worth it? Where is a good place to get some?

I’ve done plenty of vero builds, I started with them first. Helped me improve my soldering skills. I get mine from Tayda, never had any issues. It’s also less expensive than buying pcb’s. I do prefer pcb’s these days because it just makes for a cleaner build, less wire, and the pots provide a...

    Favourite guitarists/why we build?

THIS! Saves me money and keeps me occupied! Its always fun to tinker and it’s satisfying to know that you hand built a piece of gear. Building an amp and Tele are next on my list.

    Popping Noise

Definitely gonna invest in better caps & 3PDT’s, maybe even those soft touch ones, and hard wire them in so I can swap em more easily....no more breakout boards for me.

    Popping Noise

....so many “pops” to choose from. I’ve been experimenting on a couple pedals that I have this issue with...Swapping Input/output electro’s w film, changing 3PDTs, grounding pcb input, and even output, during bypass, reflowing solder joints, adding resistors in series at input and output (per Mr...

Regular gain on this demo. I did socket both resistors though. Just a matter or a quick resistor swap out if I want high gain. If you’re building this, I recommend you use the best quality input and output caps. My switches were popping (they still do a bit) because the electro’s I used were...

Yes, my MIM Strat into a DRRI with the pedal in between of course...plus my little tribute to Huey Lewis and the News. Right now it’s got base-emitter diode from an MPSA18 In place of MA856. They sound good. 1N4001’s are next to try.

Using my Ipad headphones I really couldn’t hear much difference either. If this was professionally recorded you’d hear subtle differences. I used to prefer the real ones, but this is changing my mind. I socketed the diodes so I’ve been trying different options.
