Just an observation, could be an optical illusion due to the small PCB in the 125B. Your PCB seems to be real low in the enclosure, if it truly is, you may have a short to the enclosure. I built one of these and it sounds great, just used a C500K pot for gain. Due to the germanium clipping...

Recheck IC1 with empty socket. Mainly pins 3, 6 and 8. With ic removed these should have voltage on them. Pins 3 and 6 should be around 4Vdc and pin 8 should be >8Vdc. Pin 7 will have voltage also if pin 6 has it.

What type of transistor did you use? Also measure IC1 voltages and post them.

Just want to verify that the 3 green resistors are actually resistors and not inductors. Green resistors used to be somewhat common, but nowadays the green bodied components are usually inductors.
