Wah Inductors. No hype. Just measurements.

Regarding the Crybaby inductors measuring close to the Fasels, Dunlop manufactures the Fasel inductors themselves and they started using them in their wahs years ago from what little research I did before I built my Shamwah. My donor unit was a 535Q and it's inductor was one of those metal...

What are your favourite blues breaker mods?

I did a quick glance and your gain pot isn't set up right. The lug 1 should be going to the negative pin of the op amp, not ground. Your 100pf resistor needs to connect the positive and negative pins there. C10/C12 and R12/R13 are redundant too. Just use one cap and a 10k resistor. I never...

Wah Inductors. No hype. Just measurements.

I always wondered what the actual specs were on a lot of these inductors like the different red and yellow Dunlop ones since I've never seen them come out state what they were. Not that I actually understand how the resistance or henries effect the wah sound, but it would be nice to be able to...

What's up with the buffer in the Deep Trip BOG?

I'm speculating here because I just know enough to be dangerous. :D Maybe someone else will chime in to correct me. The the buffer is probably there to help it work well with another buffer in front of the pedal, also let that Lows control work correctly without interacting with the guitar...

RAT - What's with these filters?

In regards to the RC filter on the input 1k/1nf, I put a similar filter on the input of an overdrive I made except I bumped the 1nf up to 10nf thinking it would lower the filter knee to around 15khz. What I didn't consider is the effect the guitar pickup and cable would have on that filter and...

    Telescapades 2024 - The "SparePartsCaster"

The tele with the firebird pickups looks great! In regards to that Cabronita style tele, I always thought those pickguards would look better with the edge towards the controls going just straight up and down rather than that swoop back. I told myself if I ever get around to building a cabronita...

    After some thought...

Out of curiosity, how many pedals have you built so far? When I first started building I had a few issues here and there, but largely things just work 99.9% of the time for me now that I have had more experience and gotten a workflow down.

You can always get one of those audition board things and put it together to test your builds before you box them up.

    Greengage has no gain

Did you put the wrong resistor in for R6 4.7k? That wire is obscuring part of the color band.

    Informant zero gain mod

I assumed when he said you only hear the preamp it meant the first gain stage. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't something as simple as removing the 1k and replacing it with a jumper in the second gain stage. Does anyone know if the DRV has been tweaked at all since the trace was made?

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

That's what I thought at first, but then I thought maybe I'm just not clever enough to understand it. I was making a Rat style pcb recently and used a TL071 for the buffer instead of the jfet then I added the option of making it a gain stage for more output volume. I built an Informant then I...

Stuff you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

How in the hell do you calculate the gain on this output section on the Informant/DRV? Normally on a noninverting gain stage like this you'd take R14 and divide it by R13 then add one. Not only is R13 way bigger than R14, it's going to ground with no capacitor instead of vref.

    "Rum Booty"

That's awesome, Sandy. I've still never built a dual pedal yet, much less crammed that much into one enclosure. I think the difference on my pcbs was that the polarity protection diode is in series instead of parallel and I removed the 47 ohm resistor and 100nf cap in the power filtering. I'd...

What strings do you guys use?

I used to use those pure nickel EBs like GotA posted. They're good strings. I think they're a little warmer than a nickel wound steel string. They kind of sound broken in a little when they're fresh. I've been using the regular 10-46 EB Slinkys forever now just because it's easier to buy them...

    JBF vs non-JBF Capacitors

You probably want either this: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/0-33uf-100v-5-polyester-film-box-type-capacitor-faratronic.html which is thick, so you need to make sure the pcb's spacing will accomodate it, or spend a little more on a skinny WIMA cap...

Dual Pedal- BMP and Kliché Clean Boost with order toggle

That looks awesome. The gloss black labels on the black sand enclosure is a really cool look. I can't remember if I asked you before, but is that a clear solder mask on the muff pcb?

why ppcb hasn't made the classic MXR Microamp?

You could try the micro amp plus board. I'm not sure if it's the same amount of boost total as the original, but it does have the added treble and bass controls that you can use (or ignore).
