If it's anything like the sample and hold on an analog synth, what it's sampling is the control voltage that determines how open the filter is. The holding part is how long it stays at the voltage it sampled. Almost like a random step sequencer for the filter portion

Totally. I normally test with a little 5-watt princeton style amp. It’s very clean at lower levels, and made this stick out.

The other thing I use my tuner for is a kill switch. If I could only use 1 non-tuner pedal, it would be the mercurial. Drives my amp in an excellent way plus the semi-parametric EQ
