    Debugging Noise

I think my audio probe troubles were due to installing the cap backwards.

    Amp-Like Channel Switching for Pedals

Oooo this has me thinking: is it feasible to attach the control port to the ring of a TRS connector and not necessarily have them all in the same box? Update: It would need to gracefully fall back to standard mode if a TS plug was inserted. I’m thinking this won’t work since any TS plug would...

    Golden Fleece - DIY

One diode is just a plain 1N4148. The other is a germanium that measures Vf=0.432V on my DCA55 (test current 4.523mA)

Ha nice! Somewhere around here I wrote down Vf of those diodes. If I can find it I’ll post them.

    Golden Fleece - DIY

Oooo nice! I’m very interested in seeing how close I got on my first attempt at tracing a board.

    Amp-Like Channel Switching for Pedals

Possibly more complicated than you wanted, but the PPCB relay board has a channel switching configuration: https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/relaybypass/

    Finch Compressor

Aw thanks! I already delivered it, but I have the parts to make another after I get some more Afterblaster boards in. Will post an update when I do!

    Finch Compressor

I’ve been following the “Bring Out Yer DipTrace” thread (https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/bring-out-yer-diptrace.11287/post-183628) for a while. It’s amazing how approachable it can be to get a simple circuit board fabricated. So when a friend asked me to build him a compressor, I took the...

    Sproing Deluxe Volume Boost?

Only halfway joking, but maybe I play harder when the reverb is engaged.

    Swapping Ge Diodes for Schottky

    Thanks for the detailed responses!

    Swapping Ge Diodes for Schottky

Any general guidelines for when it’s ok to swap a germanium transistor for schottky? I’ve heard that the forward voltage drop is similar (and the germanium’s are a bit all over the place anyway). Secondly, what is the purpose of these D4/D5 diodes in the signal path of the Promethium, and is it...

    Sproing dry path mods?

Ok that helps a lot, and I think you just triggered a lightbulb moment for me. Looking at the circled section, if R10 and C3 were jumpered, then the same amount of signal would flow through both R2 and R11. However, R10 restricts some signal from passing through R11, while the parallel C3...

    Sproing dry path mods?

Could you expound on this? Honestly I’m not sure of the purpose of R2

    Sproing dry path mods?

I did manage to give this a go on the breadboard today. It worked well! I think I’m going to have a TRS insert loop rather than build a second board into the same box, so I did add the coupling capacitors. I ended up using 4.7uF and a 100k pull-down after R2 for the send. I chose 4.7uF because...

    Sproing dry path mods?

Thanks @Feral Feline ! I haven’t gotten to this yet, but I’ll report back when I do.

EIGHTH-WATT BUILDS, WHAT? Which projects require 1/8w resistors?

The 16mm pots most of us use are .1 watt power rating. I don’t think there’s a problem using 1/8 watt resistors. I’d be surprised if there’s a noise difference, but others would know better than me. I always thought it was just a footprint vs ease of soldering issue.

    Bring out yer Diptrace

You all have inspired me. Here’s a layout based on some DIY classics. It’s a John Hollis Flatline with a Jack Orman Stupidly Wonderful Tone Control (http://www.muzique.com/lab/swtc.htm). It’s my first try at laying out a PCB. 🤞
