    What's on the workbench?

Is it just the camera angle, or do you really have a guitar randomly sandwiched between the wall and your parts shelves?

Calibration Boss DM-2 Clone (Aion FX Amethyst)

There is a non-zero chance the repeat pot is bad. I don't think bad pots are too common, but it does happen. I can conceive of a bad pot causing the behavior you describe. Replacing a pot isn't terribly hard or invasive, so it might be worth a try if you're out of easier/simpler things to try.

Effects Layouts Distortion Supreme (Boss MD-2)

I showed this to a good friend of mine, who is also a guitar player. Though he's not a pedal junkie, he and I grew up when Mega Man was new. And I'll assert that the legacy of that game has proved it's not just childhood nostalgia that makes it awesome. So my buddy appreciated the pedal art...

Calibration Boss DM-2 Clone (Aion FX Amethyst)

Pins 1 and 16 of IC2 (NE571) connect to C9 and C25, respectively. Those caps in turn connect to ground. They are both 220n. From your pics, it looks like you're doing the kit build, so I'm assuming all the parts came directly from Aion? If so, then I don't think you have to worry about any...

Calibration Boss DM-2 Clone (Aion FX Amethyst)

I did, but I no longer have my notes. I know most voltages were pretty close to the documented values, but there were a few that I thought were "suspicious" - different enough from reference values to suggest the possibility of a soldering or component value mistake. But in hindsight I'm...

    ANTITHIMUS CLIMACTICUS

Great build! Is that a Tayda enclosure? What color is it? I really like it - and black seems to be surprisingly legible on it.

Effects Layouts Distortion Supreme (Boss MD-2)

I briefly owned the actual Boss version of this a while ago. They are readily available, fairly cheap brand new, and super cheap used. So with this circuit, going DIY is absolutely about the love of DIY! I remember being not terribly thrilled with it, and sold it fairly quickly. But when...

Dynamic Haircut - DIY Barber Gain Changer clone

Sorry, I gave away all my "Dynamic Haircut" PCBs a while ago!

Calibration Boss DM-2 Clone (Aion FX Amethyst)

I can't provide specific help, but I too initially had trouble getting my Amethyst calibrated correctly. See my build report and my troubleshooting thread. Basically, I found the bias calibration to be extremely sensitive. So sensitive that I ended up using a multi-turn trim pot. I bought a...

DEMO GOTA Distortion Supreme-BOSS MD-2 Mega Distortion

@Guardians of the analog - do you remember which JFETs you used for Q1/Q2/Q3? The 2SK170 that the build doc calls out don't seem to be readily available. @VanWhy used 2SK209-GR in his build. Looks like LSK170 are supposedly the modern replacement for 2SK170, but (at least at Mouser) they are...

The Week on the Breadboard: The Emperor of Tone

Can’t call it done until the parts count of the power supply exceeds the parts count of the effect! I was thinking, for outdoor gigs, an integrated battery and solar charging circuit. And a super capacitor for bass slam…

The Week on the Breadboard: The Emperor of Tone

I personally like the bipolar power option. More complex power supply, but allows simplification of the audio path. Feels more hifi. 9 and 18v KOT has already been done, bipolar is unique (at least from what I’ve seen). You could go the bipolar route, but then add space for a couple LDOs to...

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

Reviving an old thread to discuss a couple (three) PCB layout rules of thumb that I'm finding to be somewhat contradictory: Try to have a large unbroken ground plane (which I interpret to mean the ideal is a single continuous pour that fills the entire area of the board) Avoid having traces run...

    KGR Arare/Lollar Overdrive

Referencing the PedalPCB schematic (above): are you saying you reduced C1 from 47nF to 10nF, and increased C5 from 10nF to 47nF? I too started to think my Cast Iron was maybe a bit too dark, not "open and airy" enough, and reduced C5 from 10nF to 6.8nF (originally Tommy III value; also made...

    Cast Iron Overdrive (Lollar Overdrive)

So I've been playing this a fair amount since posting this build report, and while I liked it, I felt it was just coming up a bit short. And when I say "a bit", I really mean, an amount of off-ness so small it can only be explained by neurosis! Anyway - maybe I'm a treble junkie, or maybe I'm...

    Points/Rewards System

I came to the thread for the discussion about points systems, but am staying for the oh-so-not-subtle dispensary/cannabis innuendo! :ROFLMAO:

    Aion Andromeda Deluxe (Nordland ODR-C)

I just checked my order history - I've been sitting on this PCB for over two years! It's the AionFX Andromeda Deluxe Natural Overdrive, based on the Nordland ODR-C. Plenty has been written about this circuit's predecessor, the Nobels ODR-1. The Nordland ODR-C attempts to retain everything...

Hard Rock Pinnacle Purebred Drive (Animals Diamond Peak CDB mod), new PCB revision

I only bought four of them, and so far have only used the two in this circuit. It definitely sounds great. I put it side-by-side against the previous version I've been using, which uses metal can 2n2369 (HFE 59 per my CTT). The difference - if there is one - is very subtle, and could readily...

    Oxide Distortion (Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion)

This circuit - the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion - has had some hype on gear forums, after some Nashville super-player hype (similar to how the hype for the Nobels ODR-1 got its start). AionFX does a great writeup on this circuit on the Quantum MOSFET Distortion product page. Incidentally, I...

Hard Rock Pinnacle Purebred Drive (Animals Diamond Peak CDB mod), new PCB revision

As I've mentioned in a few recent posts, I'm really taken with the modified Animal Diamond Peak drive designed by @Chuck D. Bones. I created a PCB for this circuit earlier this year, and called it the "Hard Rock Pinnacle Purebred Drive", see my build report. I recently revised the PCB. The...
