I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

Hi @JTEX, Only put it in Tina-Ti if you have the time and inclination, I'm hoping that I'll be able to get it to rum on my Mac. I've attached the Schematic with the missing 100uF capacitor. @giovanni, Is that the reason for using two 47uf capacitors, rather than one 100uF, because it doubles...

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

Hi @JTEX Are you saying the schematic as drawn doesn't work in Tina-Ti? Only I've just spent the last 20mins playing through it on my bread board. The only thing I omitted, as an oversight, was a 100uF cap between 9V and GND. I've not yet had a chance to follow up on your link that says how I...

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

This is the first thing I've done with a PNP, so I'm still getting to grips with the differences!

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

Hopefully with the voltages on the schematic it will help it make sence, I sort of think I know it works becuse the Ge tranistors emitter is at a more positive voltage than it's collector, but as I have already proven I don't know much! But that's partly why I'm breadboarding and trying to...

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

Hi @JTEX, Wow that’s brilliant, I wish Tina-Ti would run on my Mac. Thank you so much for running the simulation and taking a screen grab, it’s so much easier to see, and thankfully now hear what the tone control is supposed to do. Thank you again, Chris.

    Spaceman Charon on vero

Hi @Fuzzonaut, I went wrong somewhere in my bread boarding, and managed to correct it without know how! But it all works as I was expecting now.

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

User Error! I started trying different value resistors for R6, 10k had a really noticeable effect, it got quite thin as I turned the pot, so I tried a 51k, still working, not quite as thin, so I tried a 68k, and was getting into the territory I was expecting! So I just thought I’d put that 100K...

I’m trying to understand the cut off frequency of this tone control… but need help!

I’m getting myself in a mess because I don’t know how to do the calculations! This circuit is Spaceman Effects Charon, traced by Deadend FX. I’ve bread boarded it and think the fuzz is quite appealing, but I feel the tone control does nothing, it is supposed to cut bass as you turn it clockwise...

ZOYI MD1 Mini Smart Tweezer LCR

I got these ’smart’ tweezers just before Christmas and I wish I’d got them a lot sooner. I predominantly use them to check component values before stuffing them in to a PCB or bread board, and they save a lot of time when resorting all the components once I’ve pulled the bread board apart...

    Spaceman Charon on vero

    Hi @Fuzzonaut,
I breadboarded this circuit yesterday from the Deadend FX schematic, and really like it. I just have one issue, the tone control seems to be subtle, very, very subtle, okay I'm not convinced it's doing much at all. I've gone over it to see if I’ve made a mistake, if I have I...

Jam Pedals Rattler V2 Design Speculation

That will teach me to jump to conclusions, I was so sure it would be in the feedback loop given it's value! Thanks for sharing your findings so far.

Jam Pedals Rattler V2 Design Speculation

I think it's a 1Meg trim pot, so I've been working on the basis that it is in the feedback loop of the op amp, so a gain control rather than a level control. The boost takes up at least one of the two TL072s, making me wonder where the other one fits in?

The link doesn't work for me, but I’m running an old computer so it might be an issue with my set up.

    What's on the workbench?

You mean it might be one of these? https://shop.evilmadscientist.com/productsmenu/762# It's like being in the land of the giants ;)

Jam Pedals Rattler V2 Design Speculation

I saw that, and for some reason got a little buzz of excitement! Is it possible in the near future my speculations might be proved wrong (or right) and that there might be something exciting discrete op amp developments to look forward to? Or am I missreading the tealeaves?

I fear much of it will go over my head, but thanks for posting those two links @finebyfine, I'll endeavour to understand as much as I can, the interactive chip viewer is amazing.

Jam Pedals Rattler V2 Design Speculation

I figure the differences are likely to be within the tolerances, but I’ll still double check the values just in case I slipped up. I’ve also just order a pair of LCR tweezers so I might open the Series 3 pedal and have a poke around when they arrive. Not that I suspect the schematic JHS...

Jam Pedals Rattler V2 Design Speculation

I breadboarded the RAT over the weekend, Should I be able to hear a difference putting 30pF between pins 1&8 of the OP07? I know it’s needed for the LM308, but remembered seeing something somewhere that said it should be omitted on the OP07. I can’t hear a difference, but it’s not on a switch...
