SOLVED Soul Vendor - gated sounds

Again, just checking some basic stuff... make sure the transistors are firmly seated in the sockets and try it again with the back off the pedal and the pedal upside down. It doesn't look like the transistor legs are tacked into the socket so it could be a loose connection there which could be...

SOLVED Soul Vendor - gated sounds

A photo of the underside of the board, please and thanks? The voltage on Q3-C is a little high, but I'm not sure if that would be causing that sputtery gating. TBMKIIIs are extremely forgiving and usually sound excellent with any ol' transistors in them. They sound pretty good with silicon...

    Odd Carcass/Carcosa Issue

I don't think the OP is saying this IS the case, just that it's a possibility that something is loose.

Oops my bad - OUTPUT. Got the names jumbled.

    Odd Carcass/Carcosa Issue

The "after output" control is a voltage divider on the ouput, so if that knob isn't turning the volume down at all you most likely have a problem with that particular component and surrounding circuitry. There's not much happening between lug 2 of the after pot and the output pad of the board...

Chop Shop. 1 works, other is a noise making robot

I'm sure everything is as it should be, but fwiw there have been countless times where I've looked over a board a thousand times, certain everything is fine, and someone else has immediately noticed an IC leg sticking out of a socket or one side of a resistor not soldered in.

Chop Shop. 1 works, other is a noise making robot

Can you post a photo of the underside of the problematic board? It sounds like maybe you have a solder bridge or something that's causing a feedback loop/oscillation. If you figure out what you did wrong you can put it on a momentary footswitch and your bug becomes a feature.

Two Sticks of Derm Fuzz gain control

One option: Pull R5 and C5. Use a continuity tester to figure out which R5 pad connects to C4, and which connects to ground. Connect Lug 3 of a 100K pot to C4 via the appropriate R5 pad. Connect Lug 1 of the pot to ground via the other R5 pad. Use a continuity tester to figure out which C5 pad...

    The dreaded diode debate

https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=107560.0 I"m not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but if you search DIYS and FS there are a *LOT* of threads about diode clipping.

    The dreaded diode debate

The OP was polite enough to ignore this, but I'm just going to point out how needlessly rude and unhelpful this was.

    The dreaded diode debate

You will never in one thousand years, all things being equal, hear any noticeable difference between two sets of diodes in any real world playing situation. I sincerely doubt anyone here would be able to consistently identify differences in diodes in a blind test once things were normalized for...

Attempting to breadboard. What is VCC in a schematic?

FWIW, it's probably handy to have some degree of familiarity/consistency with the technical terms to make troubleshooting a problem a bit faster for everyone involved. It's much easier to type, "can you give us Vcc, Vc, Ve?" rather than step by stepping where to put the multimeter probes.

Attempting to breadboard. What is VCC in a schematic?

I'm no EE so I could be wrong but my understanding has always been that... Double letters (Vxx) are power supply voltages, the letter refers to where the voltage is headed (Vcc = collector voltage, Vss = source voltage) Single letters (Vx) are voltages with reference to ground (Vc = collector...

    Peachy fran

I have a lot of respect for her unwillingness to compromise on the idea that for it to be a "frantone" it has to be made locally, by hand, and to an exceptionally high standard. She hasn't been able to find vendors for case finish or PCB manufacture in/around Philly, and thus no pedals. That...
